The FCC has "must carry" rules that drive up the costs to content providers like cable and satellite. Also there are often taxes that are hidden, in addition to the overt ones. I worked in the GTE Wireless IT department when Al Gore shepherded through the library tax on cell service. We added it to customer bills as such, and the response from the feds was immediate: we were not allowed to explicitly show that tax. We had a crash update to our billing software and hid the tax elsewhere. Of course companies don't pay taxes, they only collect them and remit them to the government. Only customers (and to a minor degree, owners/shareholders) pay taxes.

There is plenty to dislike about the cable and satellite companies, but I think that pricing ranks well down on the list. I certainly wouldn't have it if I didn't camp in the boonies so often. It is nice to push a button and let the dish reconnect us to the world. I'm really excited to see what 5G networks bring. Plenty of bandwidth for HDTV, but who knows what the pricing will be.Jinx in Norfolkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10066853291104407732noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5995532066584316410.post-43630577661832942272018-08-22T15:56:56.780-05:002018-08-22T15:56:56.780-05:00CC, fun puzzle. We rented a housekeeping cottage in Watoga State Park where we had most lunches and dinners on our great porch next to a babbling stream. Having three cooks and three dishwashers we shared the chores and no one was overworked. We visited Pearl Buck's birthplace where a wonderful docent kept us enthralled for two hours because we were the only visitors at that time. We visited Bear Town State Park where many huge boulders were scattered in cave-like formations. There was a boardwalk to direct our attention and to keep us on the straight and narrow to preserve the habitat. Interesting geology, even on my fourth visit there. We had only one rainy day. The delightful daytime temp of 70 was fine for sightseeing and relaxing, but precluded swimming in the brand new pool.
I missed you Cornerites.Yellowrockshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09590216912123103432noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5995532066584316410.post-83223226404246300312018-08-22T15:39:12.715-05:002018-08-22T15:39:12.715-05:00Wonderful Wednesday.
