Currently Laying Fallow (Last updated on March 15, 2008)
*******************************************************************
Inspired by reader Crockett1947, I am going to count all those repeat offenders on Tribune's crossword puzzle, retroactive as of Monday Jan 21, 2008 when I created this blog.
My lists here are not complete, as I did not like dignifying those Anti, Err, Ante and all their cohorts by keying them every day as entries. I regarded them as harmless and gimmes for everyone. But from now on, everyone will be treated equally.
Please feel free to snitch. Let's line them up! I will put this post permanently on the side bar so you can always comment and add on more offenders. I will update them daily.

Isn't "agora" - the answer to "Greek market" a repeat offender, as well? Again, I wouldn't know that if it weren't for the crossword puzzle. :o)
ReplyDeletemkatesq,
ReplyDeleteI've added Mr. Agora to the the list. Thanks for the tip.

MATSU has been in the New York Times crossword three times, too—once in 1998, once in 2002, and again in 2006. Three times in a month in your puzzle is ridiculous!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate and read your blog. I attempt to do the TMS puzzle in the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Nancerino
ReplyDeleteHey, I am happy to see a blog about my daily(and sometimes perplexing) pleasure. Another repeat offender, (but not too often) is nene - a hawaiian goose.

ReplyDeletemarielle53,
ReplyDeleteThanks for bringing up NENE.
I had a quick check, and found out NENE has appeared twice since Jan 21.

Its only a typo, but EEI for snake-like-fish should read; EEL
ReplyDeleteYeah, if you see MATSU again any time soon, you should let the editor hear about it. Super-lazy to rely on crap fill like that so often. Nothing worse than having a puzzle loaded with ABET, AREA, ERR, OTOE, OBOE, and other ordinary, easy everyday junk, and then getting smacked with the ridiculous MATSU, which I have never seen (and I do 5 puzzles a day, minimum). That kind of jarring disparity is the sign of a badly calibrated puzzle.
