36. Expense reducer: BUDGET CUT. Rosebud.

Boomer here again.
Happy New Year to all. I noticed BOWL worked its way into 49A. I tried the sport Monday but bad information and 6 inches of snow got me late to the bowling center (Please do not call it an Alley), so I only was able to bowl two games, 214 and 167. I'm working on it. Next week we are again at the center that was home to my previous 600 set. Go Gophers! Row the Boat.

Across:
1. "What did I tell you?": SEE. This clue seems like something C.C. says to me about four times a day.
4. Moves like a crab: SIDLES. Are we talking about an animal or a grade school teacher?

21. Suckling spot: TEAT. I think that on Halloween, cows go tick or teating.
27. Sowing machine: SEEDER. In 2019, Minnesota was so wet that the seeders stayed in the barn until June.
30. Like a cyclops: ONE-EYED. ONE-EYED one horned flying purple people eater. Also known as a Green Bay Packer.

42. "Lou Grant" production co.: MTM.

65. Industrious insect: ANT. Not here now. I expect they'll be back in April.
Down:
1. "Just imagine ... ": SUPPOSE. I SUPPOSE so.

I have never seen this. Sometimes I need to travel to Barnes &
Noble to purchase a Wall Street Journal, in case there is a puzzle in
the paper that someone wants to see.
3. Contest submissions: ENTRIES.
I very seldom try any of this. I firmly believe there might be one
winner bet everyone else gets on an advertising mailing list.

5. "__ be fun!": IT'LL.
6. Nerd: DWEEB.

8. Joule fraction: ERG.
9. Place to fly: SKY. Way back in the 50s, there was a TV show starring "SKY KING". I believe he flew a Cessna.
10. Make light of: SNEEZE AT.
11. Calvin's babysitter in "Calvin and Hobbes": ROSALYN. Add an "N" and you have former first lady Rosalynn Carter. Both Mr. and Mrs. Carter are still alive and making news often.
12. Adolescent support group: ALATEEN. This is sad. I hope teens receive help.
13. Not worth a __: SOU. I think a SOU was a French coin, but I think the clue is not worth a nickel.

59. Tulsa sch. named for an evangelist: ORU. Oral Roberts was a famous evangelist.
Boomer
Happy New Year, Y'all! Thanks, Gary & Boomer. Puzzle & expo were the only New Year's celebration for me. I went to sleep at 7 p.m. and woke up only after the midnight fireworks at a nearby country club.
ReplyDeleteI thought this went fast & was surprised to learn it took me almost 20 mins. Some unusual words & combinations. Liked the apt theme. Probably the only ROSE BOWL I'll get to.
DNK: ROSALYN, MANCALA, TZE, LORDE. Too long since I read Calvin & Hobbs.
Got stuck on the "A" medication. Aleve didn't work. Didn't know they still made ANACIN.
A new year has SIDLED in,
ReplyDeleteReplacing its BOWLEGGED kin.
The old one's gone,
Let's move along,
And see what else may be TIED IN.
My browser closed and clobbered my comment, just as I was complaining about my internet service. Come on, 5G!
ReplyDeleteFIR, but erased nonos for DON'TS, press for AGING, ROSeLYN and TsE.
The venerable Pitts BIPLANE is famous among aviators for its stunt flying capabilities.
What team has won the most games in the Rose Bowl? UCLA. (They play their home games there.)
Does anyone else think that being a one-named singer is self-indulgent? I guess if you sell more than 100 million copies it's justified, but all pf them ain't a Madonna or an Adelle.
It's not a bowling alley?
Thanks for the fun but challenging puzzle, Gary. And thanks to Boomer for covering the holiday with good humor and wit.
I knew it was New Year’s Day (or July 4) due to all of the fireworks in our trailer park last night, but had to check the calendar anyway because the puzzle was Mondayish. No complaint here for a fun outing.
ReplyDeleteGood morning and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThe new year came in with a bang...in fact, lots of 'em. Woke me up. Some sounded like fireworks, but others were definitely gunfire.
It seems things never change. I saw that 58a was heading toward the ROSE PARADE. Filled it in and never read the clue. Didn't see the other theme answers. D'oh. Tried BEwitched before BEDAZZLED and MAhjong before MANCALA. The new Wite-Out works just fine. Thanx, Gary (you're getting to be a real regular in these here parts). Well done, Boomer. (Yes it was a
Cessna Bobcat. I'll bet Dudley would've known that.)
ANACIN: Most of the old TV ad staples have gone away: Geritol, Carter's Little Liver Pills, Serutan ("Natures" spelled backward), Doan's Pills, just to name a few. The most famous of all was Brand X.
ONE EYED: We've got a black and white one-eyed cat. DW calls him Xeno. I don't.
Time to set up my year-at-a-glance wall calendar...
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year !!!
Made it all the way to 8:30 PM last night. Wakened by a few fireworks at midnight. Very mild in the neighborhood this year.
Allotted before PARCELED.
ANNE Burrell - big personality. I want to say Philadelphia style.
Dethatched, aerated, top dressed and then rented a slit SEEDER for my yard about thirty years ago.
ROSALYNN (two ens) Carter's husband is passing the torch as leader of Habitat for Humanity.
First read prescriptions and entered doses. Oh, proscriptions.
Never saw: "12. Adolescent support group: ALATEEN", "13. Not worth a __: SOU", and "26. WWII general: DDE"
Never heard of: "42. Strategy game played with stones: MANCALA"
Boomer, how appropriate you get a puzzle with BOWL as part of the themers. Did you see UNHIT in yesterday's puzzle for the clue "Still standing, as a bowling pin" ? I linked a video yesterday afternoon to show that a HIT pin can end up standing. I was confident you've also seen them stand back up.
Didn’t finish the NE corner - BEDAZZLED did me in. Usually I plod through, but gave up in frustration over this one. Too many names, fill- in the blanks, and inconsistent theme. Three of the four relate to a rose plant itself, so not sure why BOWL is in there. And my pet peeve ETON. Maybe I’ll keep track how often it’s used this year. One for one so far...lol...
ReplyDeleteThere are several BOWL games today. The Gophers are "Rowing the Boat" out back in the Outback BOWL. TTP - I cannot remember ever seeing a pin hit the deck and bounce back up, but I have seen a ball hit the pocket and slide the five pin over to where the four pin was. What I really hate is leaving the ten pin, then rolling the spare ball at it and the ball physically touches the pin, it shivers a bit, but refuses to fall.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning:
ReplyDeleteWell, this was certainly a timely theme and well hidden, to boot, at least to me. My hold ups were the usual unknown proper names, too many, IMO: Deanna, Lorde, Mancala, Rosalyn, Tze, and Dredd. I've also never heard of Prat referring to a backside. Eroder makes me wince but I did like Erg crossing Work. No w/os so a fairly quick solve.
Thanks, Gary, for starting the new year off on the right foot and thanks, Boomer, for the exceptionally humorous expo. You are our shining star!
FLN
Ferm, glad to hear from you. Don't be a stranger.
I fell asleep right before the ball dropped and woke up shortly after it dropped. I missed hearing Auld Lang Syne which always evokes a mixture of sadness and bittersweet memories.
Happy and Healthy New Year to all. 🎉🎈🍾
Happy New Year Boomer and friends! May 2020 bring us all health and happiness.
ReplyDeleteI liked how the Markdown Marker, which is not a Red Pen, but a RED TAG, crossed with the Expense Reducer = BUDGET CUT.
I have a friend who named his son ESAU, but the family is not American.
QOD: No man ever distinguished himself who could no bear to be laughed at. ~ Maria Edgeworth (Jan. 1, 1768 ~ May 22, 1849), Irish author
I wish a healthy, happy New Year to all of you.
ReplyDeleteThe puzzle was not at all difficult today, except for MANCALA, new to me and to spellcheck. I didn't spend time looking fro the theme. It was a good one.
My companion for New Year's Eve was my much loved e-reader and an easy chair. I finished my novel and had a relaxing evening, ushering 2020. I didn't care for the music on TV and turned it down, showing my age and wishing for Guy Lombardo.
Very quiet around here. Our big bang was the night of Dec. 30. It was very loud and shook the house. There was a flash. I thought of dynamite. Then I saw in the newspaper yesterday that we had a thunderstorm that night.
David called me yesterday afternoon to wish me a happy New Year, taking a breather before his big party.
One of Alan's counselors took him and a housemate out for dinner last night and then they visited another housemate who has been in the hospital and rehab for two months.
My family, sons and sibs, are the highlight of my life.
I will spend my day budgeting and going over my finances.
Several of my neighbors have garden URNS, much more pleasant than cremation urns.
Time to hit the account books.
Boomer, I am surprised you've never personally seen a pin stand back up. That video I linked yesterday was Bill O'Neill.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Weebles wobble but they don't fall down. Sometimes an extra coat of varnish on the pins would have made the difference. And sliding pins ? Don't get me started. They often don't register in the rack, so the guy at the back of the lanes has to manually get the rack back up. There's one lane that's notorious for having racking issues and for knocking down pins. It's so bad sometimes that the other teams are all packed up and gone, and only the teams on that pair are still bowling. We know the mechanic. A lot of new parts are needed but the center just keeps "making do."
Playing on-line today - smooth solve! Needed the reveal answer to get the theme - with the first two I thought it might have to do with double letters with ALLERGY and BEDAZZLED - BZZZT!
ReplyDeleteMANCALA was a gimme as it is a popular game in Africa. One year as room parent for my son's 2nd grade class they had a country of focus and theirs was Kenya. As a part of that I helped them all make MANCALA games out of egg cartons painted in Kenyan colors.
Rooting for Baylor and Wisconsin in their BOWL games respectively- neither is the favorite - so it might be a long night....
I forgot to thank Boomer for a second blog this week - always amusing! Glad you are feeling strong going into 2020!
ReplyDeleteMusings
ReplyDelete-It took a few heartbeats to see that the gimmick spanned words. Cool beans!
-The ROSE PARADE is wonderful in person and even more so the next day up close at Pasadena High School
-Grandson’s slight PET ALLERGY kept wife’s twin from getting a cat but now grandson’s mother just got one…
-An unusual SEEDER of grass in a burned area
-REPLACING a dead POPE was the biggest part of Angels And Demons. There was no live one until the very end
-I and many of my friends had alcoholic dads. ALATEEN probably wouldn’t have helped as we thought that was the norm
-Our daily visits to the nursing home shows us the endgame of AGING for some
-Some crop dusters still use BIPLANES as the extra wing surface allows them to pull up quickly
-It seems 90% of the shirts I liked yesterday only had S’s and M’s left in stock
ReplyDeleteA nice start to the New Year. I'll be watching the Rose Parade in a few minutes, then the Rose Bowl later.
I didn't have too many problems today with the only unknowns being, MANCALA and PRAT. I guess that's what Prat Fall means, falling on your rear.
Have a great 2020 everyone.
Good morning, folks. Thank you, Gary Larson, for a fine puzzle. Thank you, Boomer, for a fine review.
ReplyDeletePuzzle was a good Wednesday level. A little easy, a little hard.
Caught the theme when I finally got to the bottom. ROSE PARADE. I always enjoy watching that. But, not today. We killed our Satellite TV and now stream, but only CBS.
My E READER is my phone. I read many books on it.
Liked BI PLANES. They are good for aerobatics because they have double the wing area and therefore can fly slow.
Did not know DREDD, or DR EDD, whichever. Perps. I will have to check that movie out. All the boxing movies with Stallone were great.
NOTARY was easy. I am a Notary Public, but seldom use it. That is a long story.
CROP TOP was unknown. Perps.
Happy New Year everyone. We are getting set to eat our pork and sauerkraut. Annual tradition since I was a child. My wife has to work this afternoon and evening so we are eating early.
See you tomorrow.

Hola! Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteThis was a rosy start to the New Year! Thank you, Gary Larson.
Boomer, please explain yourself: as a former grade school teacher I want to know what you mean in your comment about SIDLE.
PRAT is a new term for me. APB could have been a Natick for me but it perped.
I'm not sure that ANACIN can be considered a Motrin alternative. My daughter sometimes takes ANACIN for migraine headaches although she has much stronger medication as well.
BEDAZZLED was preceded by bewitched.
The only reason I knew LORDE is that I've seen the name on the Today's Birthdays list but didn't know if it was male or female. Now I know.
Thank you, Boomer, for starting the year for us and doing double duty with your witty commentary. Good luck on your BOWLing!
Have a beautiful day, everyone!
Happy New Year. I am watching the ROSE PARADE so this CW is appropriate.. Thanks for the fun, Gary and Boomer.
ReplyDeleteThankfully, an easier level CW today after a late night - dinner out with friends, and then music ( Bryan Adams) and fireworks at Niagara Falls.
I saw the theme, but was working online and required red letters to finish. MANCALA and DREDD were unknown, and I have never heard anyone use PRAT!
Enjoy the day.
Happy New Year. It starts off with a second natick filled puzzle this week from Gary Larson. Fill in the blanks, two word answers and names I didn't care to know or want to know about.
ReplyDeleteI got ROSEPARADE but didn’t see the connection to the clues.
ReplyDeleteSo, I came here to find out about the theme and there was a wonderful blog by Boomer.
Thanks!
Montana
The only use of PRAT I have ever seen is in PRATFALL, to fall on one's bum, keister, tush, buttocks, etc. OR an embarrassing mistake. Vocabulary.com says, "A pratfall originally referred to a fall on your butt, which was often done by comic actors for laughs. From there, it came to mean all sorts of unplanned screw-ups. A restaurant caught serving horsemeat has committed a pratfall. A politician’s inappropriate joke is a verbal pratfall. A football player who runs the wrong way and scores for the other team has done a pratfall. Oops!" Both usages are quite common and helped me get 53 A with just -R-T. Prat by itself does seem odd.
ReplyDeleteI found no naticks because the perps were solid.
I just now went to Best Buy to pick up a case for my new smart phone. Now I have to go buy a gift for Alan's stepmom who is coming Saturday. Alan and she have a great relationship. It would be mean to separate them. Can't we all just get along?
I really do need to do these things in the next day or so, but am I putting off the accounting?
My NY puzzle resolutions:
ReplyDelete1. "Don't rush" it's not a competition
2. "Check the perps first" but alas one mistake, was sure OPEL was spelled with an "a" so I broke my second rule already.
Drop an aspirin in a cup of espresso and you have ANACIN. Didn't know still available and not really a Motrin alternative.
Official with a seal..circus "Barker"?
Did Mandela play MANCALA?
And why would you put a coffee URN in the garden? Except that a keurig would short out when it rained and knock you flat on your PRAT!
Come on, Boomer, you learned to bowl in a bowling alley, not a bowling center. There is no negative for the term "alley".
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! Hope everyone had a safe and fun New Year's Eve!
ReplyDeleteI loved the ROSE PARADE theme. Last year we attended the ROSE PARADE in person and enjoyed it very much. I would love to go again sometime. It is not hard or expensive to get tickets for the reviewing stands. But it is very difficult to find a place to stay anywhere in Los Angeles on New Year's Ever for less than about $500. Way out of my price range. We stayed in a hostel in Little Tokyo and took the Metro.
Here are my videos and photos from the 2019 ROSE PARADE
Hand up never heard of MANCALA or PRAT. Crosses to the rescue to FIR.
I got to meet Marina Sirtis who played DEANNA TROI. I totally had a crush on her. Somewhere I have photos. She was not only beautiful in real life, but very funny.
I dvr'ed the Rose Parade so I could watch it without the commercials! Fond memories of when we threw caution to the wind with Y2K in 2000 and flew out to LA when everyone else hunkering down and wondering what was going to happen- which turned out to be a big nothing. I had always wanted to see the parade and with Wisconsin/Stanford in the game it was a win/win! They had just started having the B2 stealth bomber do a flyover during the parade (it came all the way from Whiteman AFB, which is just down the highway from me in Missouri) - this year it was piloted by a woman for the first time- a 2004 USAFA grad: http://www.pasadenanow.com/main/first-ever-female-piloted-b-2-stealth-bomber-flyover-kicks-off-rose-parade-new-decade/#disqus_thread

ReplyDeleteLots of inky mess but one bad box
ALATEEN is like AlAnon. Although I remember an 11 year old attending AA mtgs and he fit right in
I'm more familiar with Lao Tse. XW staple.
cOWhErdEr really created a mess and I crossed it with REDpen. Rocky/DREDD didn't help . I get the muscle guys mixed up. Also Butt<rear<PRAT. I skip Garfield. Tbtimes has massacred the comics section.
Ah yes. The tournament of champions which was the herald of spring for me. Just to see golfers when the courses in NH were blanketed.*
REB not RBs. Where does one see NBA stats these days - not the TB times
Oops , not Garfield, C&H. Are they still in business?
I think Boomer was referring to the candlepin crowd re. ALLEY.
WC
I used to drive by golf courses just to get a whiff of the action.
Happy New Year Everyone.
ReplyDeleteIch wünsche Euch allen einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr 2020.
Got it all without help; and had to wite-out one cell - for the D in BEDAZZLED. Cool ROSE theme.
For 40d . barge line, I toyed with Plimsoll (mark) but thought that would be more end of the week. Perps warned me off that.
Good job, Gary. And thanks Boomer for giving us your take (again).
ESAU - My Mom would call someone with a scraggly beard or other unkempt features 'een ruuche ESAU'. (A 'rough' Esau.). [Note that Esau means 'hairy' in Hebrew.]
And thus endeth the lesson.: :-)
Well, this was a New Year's Day toughie for me, but still enjoyable--thank you, Gary, and have a wonderful 2020! But I loved the ROSE theme, and it reminded me many years ago, when I first came to California, having a chance to see the ROSE PARADE in Pasadena. A Total delight. And Boomer, you too are a total delight. I wish you and C.C. a wonderful and healthy 2020 as well!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, everybody.
Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gary for the timely Wednesday puzzle. Thanks Boomer for stepping-in with the expo to kick-off the after-puzzle-party.

Cheers, -T
Boomer, glad to see that you are up at at 'em. I never noticed (or smelled) the ROSEs before I got to the end. For a Wed. puzzle this one took WAGS and perps to finish. I'd heard of a PRAT fall but always thought it was one word and never associated it with a rear end. Looks like Lucina, CanadianEh, Yellowrocks, I.M. & others agree.
ReplyDeleteSo many unknowns that had to be worked out. ROSALYN, LORDE, ALATEEN, Mo-TZE, MANCALA, DREDD, DEANNA Troi, ANNE Burrell, POPE. I'm not a movie or television buff. The double stacked unknowns ROSALYN and ALATEEN crossing the unknown Anne Burrell took some guessing.
ANACIN- I remember the commercial about 50 years ago? "Mother please, I have a headache". Then the announcer says "don't take it out on her". D-Otto- when I ran the wholesale drug co. I was astonished at the obscure brands of things that sold. Tonics, laxatives, pain pills, tooth powder.,,,etc. Thousands of them. And drugstores asked for many that we didn't stock. Old brands that wouldn't die.
Let's see how those "ONE-EYED one-horned purple people eaters" do against the Saints this weekend. And LSU will have one more BOWL game in the Superdome (about 6 miles from my house) on Jan 13th against Clemson . It will be a wild party weekend in the Quarter and on Bourbon Street.
BIPLANES- they don't have crop-dusters in MN?
Hi everybody, Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the puzzle and the fun theme. Thanks Gary and Boomer. And thanks CC and Rich for all that you do.
I spent a fair amount of time in bowling alleys as a young man. I was in several leagues. Back in the area where I grew up (northern Virginia, Washington DC), most bowling alleys featured duckpins. You could heft and hold the smaller balls easier. Since the balls and pins were smaller, scores were lower and you got to throw three balls per frame. I had heard of candlepins but never saw them.
When I started bowling, the alleys all had young men at the end doing the pin setting. Automatic pin setters showed up a little later. After the game, you would slide some coins down the gutters for a tip.
We live about 20 miles from Pasadena but have never fought the traffic and parking to go to the Rose Parade. Several times we did go to Pasadena the day after to see the floats all parked. That area even smelled good.
I had no trouble with Calvin's babysitter because Jordan and I read about their misadventures almost every time we get together. Rosalyn is one of the few people that has Calvin's number. I'm surprised that didn't give most others a big problem unless it was all crosses. Yes?
Happy New Year! An enjoyable Rose Parade puzzle to start the decade. Nice.

Happy New Year, ALL! A special HNY to Boomer & C.C., who give us Cornerites so much throughout the year.
2020 is such a beautiful number. Maybe this is the year I will remember to get my long-postponed eye exam...
A bit of a toughie today but do-able through all the small perps. A good way to start a year that will certainly bring us challenges galore.
I am watching the ROSE PARADE as I type. What geniuses think up the designs and the ways to achieve them--through vegetable matter alone?!
Sheesh. It gives me hope that we should be able to solve ALL of mankind's problems.

Have a great day and a great year.
BE, as I remember it, it was Mother please, I'd rather do it myself!" But I could be wrong.
ReplyDeleteStearman is another storied BIPLANE widely used for stunt flying.
I spent New Year's Eve in a friend's conversion van behind a restaurant right on the Tournament of Roses Parade route. Two married couples in that little van. I think we paid about $50 bucks for the privilege. This was circa 1985. Had an employee who volunteered every year to apply the flowers to the floats. A lot of people were needed, because no tissue or other non-floral materials were allowed, making the prep period short.
Funny DR OMK. The trundle bed provides the perfect imagery. :-)
ReplyDeleteJinx/BigE/et.al. The ANACIN Commercial.
In Italy, DW & I found Bayer's Aspirina. The tablets are about the size of a nickle (SOU?) and, placed under your tongue, would dissolve w/o bad a bad taste. And, voila!, headache gone in about 4 minutes. I tried to order some on Amazon but, alas...
Cheers, -T
I guess the American Bowling Congress or the Prof. Bowling Assn. want to "class up" bowling, so not only alleys, but also don't say "gutter", but I don't think that'll catch on.
ReplyDelete"The cast is great, the script is swell
But this we're tellin' you, sirs
It's just no go, you got no show
Without the PRODUCERs!" - lyrics by the man my daughter and I refer to as The Genius, Mel Brooks. Guess the name of the play.
Bill-O: Youngest is a huge fan of musicals. Mel's brilliant movie/play poster hangs in my computing loft. UMA's, uhm, assets, are front and center. 'Tis distracting :-) -T

ReplyDeleteFunny, Dash T. Wait until retirement. Then you'll really have too much time on your hands.
Boomer, CONGRATS TO THE MINNESOTA GOLDEN GOPHERS ! That was one of the most exciting bowl games I've see this year. PJ Fleck has done a great job.
I agree - TTP. I was sitting in my recliner watching the game and I became exhausted watching P.J. Fleck running up and down the sidelines.
ReplyDeleteAnon PVX ~
ReplyDeleteSorry I beat you to it, but you were probably typing as I was posting.
(Hmm. I guess we shouldn't be particularly proud of being superstitious.)

Thanks for the appreciation. OOZING seems to be the best I can manage today.
Jayce ~
Yep, the ROSE PARADE seems special this year. They're navigating that hairpin corner pretty neatly!
No floats got stuck in 2020, and the queens all seem to have that royal wave down pat. (I tried it; it's fun!)
The Norton Simon Museum gets all the free publicity in the world.

Anon-T, I'm surprised I don't remember Ulla as a xwd answer. My daughter played the part on stage in Florida about six years ago.

Billcohoes, your DAUGHTER AS ULLA gave a very moving erformance. Where was the performance?
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year all you white rabbits
All I can say re. Ulla is Ooh la la. So that's "The PRODUCERS". I missed it entirely. Re. Bowling Alleys..
ReplyDeleteAt age 12 my brother and I welcomed "Skippy" to our bowling team. Funny kid with glasses .
After bowling came the Little League parade and opening day. And who's throwing bullets, yep, Skippy.
He was a Charly Finley bonus baby and had a MLB career. Moral of the story: Ya never know.
That was candlepins. Another MLB we from my town was an excellent candlepin bowler. Some PIN Head said to him "You know you could make some serious dough at this game".
Just after signing a big MLB deal.

The PRODUCERS poster Youngest hung in my computing loft.
ReplyDelete//WC - I'm sure you can find the movie on streaming whatever. Take the time. A Brilliant movie brilliantly cast from the Mad Mind of Mel Brooks.
The trailer to whet your pallet.
Bill-O: You gotta be proud! Great singing voice.
Steve - I want to thank you for your hummus basic. I went your route of non-canned chickpeas (so much better!) but you didn't tell me I also had to cook them (a recipe I turned to for ratios [1lb beans, 2 clove garlic, 1&1/2 tsp salt, 5 TBS lemon juice, 1/4c water, 1/3c tahini, 1/4+c olive oil] said to).
Anyway, today Eldest found res el hanout (?) at a market downtown. I sprinkled it atop tonight's BOWL... Oh, yeah! Yum.
Thanks mate!
Cheers, -T
Rabbit rabbit.
ReplyDeletePasadena gets all the glory, but I grew up seeing the Rose Parade every year in the City of Roses: Portland Oregon!
Tony -- Great story! {A+!}
I almost put butT, but then that that's not really slang. Then again, neither is PRAT, tho it may be archaic. Thought I'd look up how many times I've used PRAT or PRATfall here at the Crossword Corner.
CC 3/20/15
(Part of a longer poem on the Muses)
Dancers cherish Terpsichore
Limber as graceful trickery.
Pratfalls follow Thalia
In Comedy's regalia,
Honest laughter is her victory!
CC 5/20/15
Jack Spratt and his wife had a SPAT.
She shoved and Jack fell with a splat!
'Twould have been a sad fate
Had he hit his pate,
But 'twas slapstick because he fell on his PRAT!
CC 11/1/16
To get what you want from a rebellious BRAT
You maybe could use a ROD on his prat!
But to CURRY FAVOR
With a Miss to savor,
You'd best hide the stick, display the KARAT!
CC 5/3/17
Fritz and Hans would make SURPASSING plans
To prank and cause PRATFALLS for the rest of their clans.
So when only one of the kits
Could be found (it was Fritz),
Pa was suspicious, said, "I want A SHOW of Hans!"
And most recently at JumbleHints (5/23/19 if you want to look up the whole long poem) this may be a slangish and British-sounding usage:
"Edwardo was a whiny prat..."
