  1. Ah, a beautiful fun Monday CW! Very nice, fun fill, nice theme, 15 minute FIR instead of a half hour struggle like Friday or Saturday. Thanx KC & ACM, well done. For some reason I repeatedly read “vaccination spot” as “vacation spot” until “ARM” perped in, then a more careful reading and the V-8 moment. Thanx Boomer, and I certainly more than agree with you about vaccinations. I have run out of patience with people who refuse vaccination. As long as there are unvaccinated people, this virus has a place to replicate, mutate, and get stronger. Each version is a little more resistant to vaccines. If it comes up with a version that is TOTALLY resistant, and it WILL, given enough time……. GET VACCINATED!!! This is a race!!

  2. Good morning!

Nice offering to start the week. Noticed the NOBEL/NOBLE pairing in my race to the bottom. Finished this one just as fast as I could write. Thanx, Kevin, Andrea, and Boomer.

RABBIT: "Silly rabbi, kicks are for Trids." Another fractured tale ends with, "People who live in grass houses shouldn't stow thrones." You can imagine the beginnings.

INVESTED: I agree with Boomer. There's a big difference between investing and playing the market. Had to sell a large chunk of my IRA last week to fulfill my RMD. I used it as an opportunity to rebalance our asset allocation.

Happy birthday, Lucina. I always enjoy your posts.

  3. PER: Gas prices around here haven't gotten much above $2.75. With a little shopping, you can find it for $2.60 or thereabouts.

MARIPOSA: One of our best vacations was a trip to Yosemite for my 50th birthday. (Wow, that was a long time ago!) Did you know that you can't buy underwear in the park? If you forgot to pack any, you'd wind up drying your sole pair on the lampshade in your cottage. Yup.

ALAMO: A group of Texans (including the business reporter for the Barnacle) wrote a book debunking many heroic aspects of the Alamo myth. In response, the state canceled a book-signing at the U of T campus. No myth-busting allowed on any property that receives state funding.

  4. FIR, but erased GOOSEbumps and THou. Didn't get the theme 'til Boomer 'splained it.

I found out how corrupt show biz awards were when PIA Zadora's old fart husband bought a Golden Globe award for her.

I still have an all-in-one ink printer, but my other two use TONER. The lasers are my favorites, including my ancient HP LJ 1300. I use a small, inexpensive and lightweight laser printer in the RV.

Gas is a little under $3 PER gallon at Costco here.

I'm the only teetotaler among my Myrtle Beach golf trip buddies. I'm always the DD, regardless of whose car we take.

There is good news about omicron. It seems to be much less severe, and there are theories that evolution favors less severe but wider spreading variants. I'm betting that future variants will be about as deadly as seasonal flu (which is nothing to sneeze at), and we'll probably need a vaccination yearly. I hope that everyone who can do so get all their shots, including the ones for seasonal flu.

FLN, Thanks to Vid for the first-hand account of the Bhopal disaster.

Thanks to Kevin and Andria for the fun romp, and to Boomer for the chuckles.

  5. Oh happy day. I guess 40's baby: BOOMER might have been a themer. I certainly enjoy all of his observations to start the work week. C.C. then Boomer and we are in good hands.

MARIPOSA is a CSO to a long gone poster as well as to our friend JOHN LAMPKIN .

Boomer, as someone who has written many briefs addressed to many courts, I was of the Polonious from Hamlet shcool who said, BREVITY IS THE SOUL OF WIT . Likewise, Oliver Wendell Holmes said that he wrote his briefs standing up because tired knees encouraged brevity. One of my most recent successful briefs was three pages long.
Generally, if you file 75 pages it is because you really do not have much to say.

Thank you KC and ACM and Boomer. D-O, I wish I had RMD issues and will resist the tempation to start posting my bedtime stories (fractured fables).

    Have a great week all.

  6. I am not going to mention that so called NFL team called the Vikings however CONGRATULATIONS to Minnesota Twins greats Tony Oliva and Jim Kaat for being elected to Baseball's Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. As a young kid working at Chalet Pizza in Hopkins, MN., I delivered many pizzas to the Kaat home in Minnetonka. Later when I hosted a baseball card trading show at Hopkins (MN) High School, fund raiser for the Debbie Burnikel Scholarship Foundation, Mr. Kaat was kind enough to appear for a couple of hours and sign autographs. Also Graybar hosted an event for customers at Target Field featuring Tony Oliva and Juan Berenger. C.C. constructed an Oliva Crossword and handed out copies, and I brought about 50 Oliva baseball cards and spread them around to various employees and friends and if they kept them, they now have an autographed card of a Hall of Famer.

  7. Took 4:31 today. Had "goose bumps" before "goose flesh."

Interesting intersection of Nobel crossing Noble.

Seemed like an animal theme: rabbit, worm, cobra, & goose.

  8. This was a FIR Monday and WO free until I got down to the reveal. I had started with DOu believing the themer had to do with double letters, though STRING ORCHESTRA didn't fit that idea. I SWORE I would take my time and check perps as I went along, but put THou/THEE, like Jinx, and BENDy/BENDS. Another WO was just SILLY when I put ADiom instead of ADAGE. Some serious senior slippage there at the end. But in the end, a FIR, and many thanks to KC and ACM for their clever and enjoyable puzzle.

Thanks Boomer for your humor and dependable explanation. Nice review!

Happy Birthday to Lucina today. I too enjoy your posts. Enjoy the day! With your many activities, you are a good role model.

Good start to the week to all.

  9. Good Morning:

This was as easy-peasy as you can get and enjoyable, to boot. No w/os, no stumbling blocks, no complaints! I always like a well-hidden theme and the resulting Aha reveal and today’s offering fulfilled that in spades. As mentioned, we had a clever crossing of Noble and Nobel, plus the related Brief/LSAT and a bit of a stretch with Allan/Pit (The Pit and The Pendulum.) Also, a mini A Team with Pia, Cobra, NCAA, Orchestra, ADA, and Mariposa.

Thanks, Kevin and ACME, for a great start to the week and thanks, Boomer, for the generous dose of witticisms and nostalgic musings. I second the motion that the Medicare ads end after tomorrow. Talk about beating a dead horse!

Happy Birthday, dear Lucina, I hope you celebrate in style! 🎂🎁🎉🎈🎊

    Have a great day.

  10. We may lose the Medicare ads, but we'll still have the Facebook ads. "Hi, I've worked at Facebook for a day and a half, and I'm in charge of our policy regarding which posts to take down." Idiots took down a couple of great local pawn shops without explanation. The owners think it's because the pawn shops have weekly drawings for a free firearm. They are federally registered firearm dealers, and winners must be able to legally able to buy a firearm to collect their winnings. I would rather watch all the Limu the Emu commercials back-to-back than one of those phony-baloney interviews.

  11. Hola!

Thank you, C.C. and all for the birthday wishes. It's all about eating today. My sister is taking me out to lunch and tonight we shall go out to dinner. My birthday gift of a cellular phone is still a mystery to me but less so as I keep finding its features.

Thank you, Kevin and Carla for the enjoyable puzzle. NOEL is a timely fill.

I love a milk SHAKE but it's off the list. CSO to the late Abejo at EARL Grey tea.

Last summer we drove through one of those tree trunks as shown in the photo.

Yesterday I worked on the puzzle off and on in between wrapping presents. As usual I loved all the puns.

Enjoy your Monday, everyone! I certainly shall.

  12. Musings
-A fun puzzle and theme (once I got the reveal).
-Err - We were at an event with a former colleague whose son coached the state championship track team. She said one of his runners got a big time scholarship. I asked her, "What's his race?" meaning "What race does he run?". She, and the rest of the table recoiled in shock before I could explain myself.
-19F today but there might some GOLF weather coming.
    -Happy Birthday, Lucina!
    -Back to sophomore geometry.

  13. Marvellous Monday. Thanks for the fun, Kevin and Andrea, and Boomer.
I FIRed in quick time, and saw the SILLY theme.

Sis changed to SUB. I waited for perp to decide between Allen or ALLAN.
Hand up for thinking of GOOSE bumps before FLESH.
And this Canadian had to move the initials around from RGB to RBG. I can never remember ORMAN, but perps were fair. Otherwise, a slam-dunk solve.

A few languages today with the French AMIE and ENTRE, Italian TRE, and Spanish MAS and SALSA (and their CSOs). We had COBRA and NEHRU to represent India.
We had NOBLE and EARL, and hand up for noting NOBEL crossing NOBLE.
    NOEL and ARM were timely.
An OBOE would not be part of that STRING ORCHESTRA.

    Happy Birthday Lucina.

Wishing you all a great day.

Wasn’t it Abejo who liked EARL GREY tea.

  14. Thank you Kevin and Andrea for a pleasant Monday morning walk from clues to fill. And thank you for the recap Boomer, you were in rare form this morning. Sorry about your UPS and DOWNS. Sounds like you need a UIE.

46A NOBLE. Our Archbishop used to have a pair of labs he named BARNES and NOBLE. I met NOBLE once after a Scouts Mass. I believe that BARNES was in dog heaven by then.

70A EWER. I've made only one of these. Getting the lid to fit tightly after you've pulled out the lip is very tricky.

25D MARIPOSA. Also the name of a short lived Canadian (Hi Eh!) music festival (1961 - 1963). The festival had one of the first public performances by Canadian singer/songwriter JONI MITCHELL, my all time favorite. She was one of this years Kennedy Center Honorees for the Creative Arts.

And Happy Birthday Lucina. 🎂 You're my favorite Dale Doll!

    Cheers,
    Bill

  15. The mention of breakfast cereal reminds me of something I noticed yesterday in a TV ad for toilet paper. The bear family is eating breakfast, and on the table is a box of "Salmon Flakes". That made me smile. I wonder how many other ads contain little background grins that are not directly related to the sales message?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I ERRed (or I will blame autocorrect). SUB should be SIB.

Thanks Lucina for confirming my memories of Abejo.

FLN- thanks Picard for the links to the organ concert.
I did the CW and lurked, but didn’t get a chance to post.

Also FLN- I was sure that we had a CSO to LfromAlberta with the CALgary Flames. But poor editing of the clue gave it to ATLGranny. Tsk, Tsk Rich- “ NHL Flames’ original home” would have been better.
    And VINIER was just (j)u(n)gly!

  17. Quick and fun puzzle and blog. We have been out in Seattle - our daughter was due last Wed with her first child. No baby yet - so we have been making soups and baked ziti, etc for them to have in the coming weeks and doing some deep cleaning of the house.

As a kid I used to love playing with SILLY STRING- I'm sure it wasn't made with biodegradable components- but no one seemed to care about such things then. https://www.conserve-energy-future.com/is-silly-string-biodegradable.php

Thanks Boomer and Kevin & ACM!
Happy birthday Lucina- your entries always bring joy to the day!

  18. My head if full of old jingles and TV show theme songs, so of course I laughed at thinking "Trix are for Kids" after figuring out the theme.

I always knew it as TAANSTAFL: There AIN'T no such thing as a free lunch. I read it in a sci-fi novel as a kid. Looked it up to see which one-> term was old but popularized by Robert Heinlein's 1966 science-fiction novel The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress.

desper-otto: Since you like those, here are a few more:
    Opra Knockerty only tunes once.
Abscess makes the fart go Honda.

  19. I thought the animals in the silly theme answers were put there intentionally making a clever added layer.
I think of myself as having two totems, angels and butterflies. All wings. I liked seeing mariposa.
    Schmetterling - German
    Papillon - French
    Farfalla - Italian
    Mariposa - Spanish
I, too, thought of Abejo at Earl grey.
Some people reject vaccination as unproven, although to date, 470,000,000 injections have been given in the US, and there are 197,000,000 people fully vaccinated and rising. The results of vaccination in the US, as opposed to rejecting vaccination, are evident. Yet the same rejecters do try less proven measures.
I love smoked EDAM cheese, nice and tangy.
I am aware that goose flesh is very much in the language, but I hear and say goose bumps.
Lucina, a very happy birthday to you. I enjoy your posts.

  20. Thank you Kevin and Andrea for a really easy puzzle ... I finished it so fast, that I wanted to go .... back and do it again, ;-) My first reaction was ... Thats it ?? ... where are the rest of the clues ?
Thank you Boomer for your pithy commentary. Glad you're doing well.

I never got the theme, but hied to this blog, to get it second hand.
'Theres no such thing as a free lunch' ... somebody who has not attended a financial planning seminar ... but you've got to sit through an hour long boring speech... that's the costs...

Happy Birthday Lucina ... I hope you have great meals and repasts, and not ( gain weight ..) ;-) It is a great pleasure to read your posts, about the simple facts of life and family and friends, and the small items that make life truly worth living. May your children and grandchildren and others bring you great joy and happiness.... !!

We dont have any mexican restaurants here, but whenever I pass a Taco Bell, I think of you, and say a small prayer for you.
Its even charming that you've been having such problems with your smart phone ... you realize, of course, that its not THAT smart, after all.... it hasn't quite figured you out, yet... Hopefully, the phone part still works and serves its purpose...

Thank you Desp-Otto for the info that you can't wear underwear at Yosemite... I mean, who checks ? I wish I'd known that 20 yrs ago .... life would have been so much easier, and not so constricting. Thats means no Lawyers, Right ? .... because lawyers are always in their Briefs ....
    .... Hi Lemonade !!

Thank you CC, for that picture of the beautiful and glamorous femme fatales ... of life gone by .... I remember their posts, and am reminded of the adage ... life is fleeting, and all too soon, we all, shall only have been guests on this firmament.

Meanwhile, have a great day, and jolly week, you all.

  21. Good morning.

    Happy Birthday, Lucina !

Jill Singer, yesterday's constructor, posted a comment there this morning.

Boomer said, at 67a Promised to tell the truth: SWORE. Or hit a bad golf shot, or leave a split. (#@!&%#@).
You could have added, "Or watched the Vikings lose to the Lions."

Boomer, I had that written before your 6:42 AM comments, but then went back to sleep. Long time White Sox fans here are happy to see that Minnie Miñoso was finally inducted into the Hall. He was one of the first Latino All-Stars and the first Cuban born black ballplayer in MLB. Just as Ernie Banks is known as "Mr Cub", Minnie is known here as "Mr White Sox."

Jinx, no gun giveaways here, but one of the rock radio stations gives away a new chainsaw every Friday. They ask, "Why not ?" For this season, they are having a Merry Axe-mas. The grand prize is an autographed guitar.

Desper-otto, have you been able to get the Universal puzzle to load at The Globe and Mail ? Or for that matter, anywhere ? I've been able to do it The Puzzle Society, but don't care for the UI.

  22. Perfect Monday puzzle, Kevin and Andrea, many thanks. And your Monday comments are always a treat, Boomer, many thanks to you too.

I loved sailing through this doable puzzle, hitting a bit of a snag only at the end, when I spelled Edgar ALLEN, and have never heard of a BILGE. But no big deal, all was well in the end.

Nice picture of RBG Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Boomer.

Don't think I've ever had EARL Grey tea.

Loved getting that STRING ORCHESTRA crossing the middle of the puzzle.

Happy Birthday, Lucina. What a lovely picture you posted of that sweet group of friends, C.C. Many thanks for that too.

    Have a great week, everybody.

  23. Hand up never heard of GOOSE FLESH, just GOOSE BUMPS. But I enjoyed the SILLY theme. Only know BRUNO MARS because DW is a fan. EARL GREY TEA is Picard's favorite drink in Star Trek.

Here we posed at Taft Point in MARIPOSA COUNTY in YOSEMITE. DW was a bit nervous there!

I have said it before, but I will say it again: SUZE ORMAN was telling everyone to buy into the stock market in the bubble before 2000. After things dropped, she told everyone to sell. Worst possible advice. I am appalled that these untrained people who play investment advisors on TV are allowed to continue to do harm. One of them was even appointed to a powerful government position! Pay no attention to these people.

  24. A pleasant 8 minute amble to start the day and week, thanks for your collaboration Kevin and Andrea! I liked the crossing of NOBLE and NOBEL as others have mentioned. Of all words, the ones that give me trouble with spelling are the ones ending in EL or LE, but those two I have down pat due to the syllable accents :).

Happy B/day to YOU Lucina! 🎉🥳

Nice expo Boomer, always enjoy your Monday offering!

Went to get my Moderna booster last week, they also offered the flu shot which I was scheduled for this week at a different location, so I opted for a jab in each arm, the only ill effects being two sore arms for a couple days and maybe just a little more tired than usual. Hopefully will soon have efficacy against any strains or variants that may be lurking. Good day to all!

  25. Thank you again, my dear Blog friends! It is exhilarating to receive so many lovely birthday wishes! And it mitigates the thought of reaching the ripe old age of 84. But, OTH, I have outlived both of my parents, my dad who died at age 35 and my mother at 80. My paternal great-grandparents reached their mid 70s so I am hopeful to live many more years, God willing.

Last week I was pleased to receive a Christmas card from Chickie (Leah). Now feel compelled to start on mine.

    Vidwan
Thank you for your thoughtfulness. Prayers are always welcome. Yes, thank you for asking. I can use the telephone aspect and can even text. Small steps. My granddaughter gave me a few tips when I saw her Saturday and it amazed me to see her fingers fly across the screen.

I don't recall if I mentioned that we made 25 dozen tamales which is a small number compared to when the entire family assembles to make them. However, I'm pleased that I will have some to take to the Christmas lunch with my group of friends.

  26. CanadianEh, Bill Seeley and Vidwan Glad you liked the ORGAN concert videos of Jonathan Dimmock. He is also the ORGANist for the San Francisco Symphony as well as being the only American to serve as Organ Scholar of Westminster Abbey. Quite a treat to experience his music up close and personal.

    More From Yesterday:
Jinx Yes, PORSCHE and Porcupine indeed have that special alliteration. I just did a Google search for "porcupine pricks are on the outside" and most hits were indeed for BMW. But there were some for PORSCHE.

Vidwan Glad you also appreciate the genius of Tom Lehrer and his line "See the HALIBUTS and the STURGEONS being wiped out by detergents".

Here is a version of that song complete with visuals. As bad as things may be now, air and water pollution was worse then.

Jill Singer Thank you for stopping by and telling us the origin of STURGEON GENERAL!

Wilbur Charles Thank you for filling in the rest of the story on your Vietnam coincidence experience and your SYDNEY ferry experience!

If they NAE SWORE, They NAE golf(last Monday it was VOW)

I think recycle and trash end up the same place. China ain't buying no more

Yep, a veritable plethora of OTS this year. Ravens passed on OT and tried to win with 2pt'er. Alas.

Who cried "No Mas. No Mas!"
    And who was he fighting?

    Happy Birthday, Lucina ❤
Speaking of...I just had the J &J booster in my left ARM

Minnie played in Negro league 45-51. Those years needed to be added to his resume

Picard, I'm with Merle, those heights make me nervous. Yep, I predicted her amazement as I saw her moving down the aisle

Re. ORNAN. Picard, Sellers were desperate for buyers and probably paid her to push. 8 had a Merrill Lynch guy do exactly that.

  31. Hi All!

Nice clean Monday grid (even with 5 themers!) Kevin & Carla; thanks for the puzzle.

What can I say about the wonderful expo that other's haven't? Thanks for kickin'-off the after-party Boomer!
//DW gets her Pfizer Booster tonight; my Moderna #3 is Friday (along w/ a flu vax)

I almost had to borrow D-O's 1a Wite-Out today; my first thought was queso. Saved by a perp-check.

WO: Had NOEL's 'O' already in the grid but I wanted to write it anyway... NOOL was quickly corrected.
ESPs: I waited on perps for vowels in MARIPOSA | ORMAN.
Fav: I did like the NOBLE | NOBEL crossing but "The jig IS UP" made me think of Brook's History of the World, Part I [:08]

TTP - Thanks for heads up on Jill FLN. Jill, welcome to The Corner.

HG - LOL "What's the race?" //and sad we 'go there' even while talking about Track & Field.

Unclefred - I too kept reading vacation.
YR - I've also heard GOOSE pimples (which, yuuuck!)

We went to Yosemite in 2018(?) - absolutely amazing. It was also cool to see things IRL that you'd only seen on Discovery or NATGeo (e.g. El Capitan, Glacier Point). We didn't stay in the park, D-O, so I didn't know about the underwear issues
//VidWan - D-O said you can't buy underwear there... You can wear what you want.
Picard - Nice snap, but I'm with your DW. I was not going to get w/in 6 foot of the edge of anything over 8" high.

Happy Birthday Lucina! //That reminds me, gotta call my Mom today :-)
I think you can tell, we all enjoy your company at The Corner.
Re: longevity: Think the Big Guy is giving you back the time you gave him? :-)

    Cheers, -T

  32. Thank you Kevin, Andrea, & Boomer. I enjoyed puzzle & expo & comments.

FLESH filled first & I had a hard time coming up with the GOOSE at the last.

Happy Birthday, dear Lucina! You are a joy here at the corner.

Still unvaccinated since I have had bad reactions to so many shots and never go anywhere. However, I was very ill over the weekend and wanted to go to the health facility where there are many covid cases. I ended up suffering at home rather than get exposed. Still not up to par. I would love to get a shot.

RIP, former Senator Bob Dole, a prince of a guy that I had the honor of interviewing one-on-one several times. One of the few politicians who lasted many years in Washington and avoided scandal.

  33. Many thanks again everyone! You make me feel like a celebrity!

Did you bake that yourself? Thank you for an appropriate theme.

  34. A good Monday PZL. Thanks to the Christian/Michaels team!

I was half expecting "Silly" to come before COBRA. But that wouldn't make sense, now, would it?

NOEL, eh? I'm getting into the Christmas spirit these days. Despite the TV ads that have been dunning us.
I think it's the music. Despite the awful singers.
I notice the spectacular introductions given to some singers are too much encouragement to prove they're as versatile as Olympic athletes. They demo incredible ranges and stick the landing on every carol!
It is getting so I prefer choirs, as they are less inclined to try fancy vocal gimmicks--and just sing the *#@! song.

    A single diagonal, far side.
It gives us an anagram (13 of 15 letters) that reminds me of a coaching lesson I once had with a gifted young actor who was prepping to play Irina in Chekhov's Three Sisters. She was trying to come "back down" from a scene of anger, and it wasn't working. I pointed out to her that sometimes an actor assumes that a powerful emotion (anger) can only be released in gradual steps.
No, I explained, the moment you can let go of any emotion, do so! Hanging on will only come across as forced & phony.
Too many feel they "owe" some allegiance to the emotions they create. That is just a sentimental notion.
In this case, she was caught in ...

    "A KEEPABLE RAGE"!

  35. A perfectly delightful start to the week made somewhat more so as I look over some of the clues that we filled in by crosses before I even read them.

In other news, those of you with NYT puzzle subscriptions who signed up after February 11, 2016 are in for a treat if you look up CC's puzzle from that day. It showed up for me today in the "From the Archive" section of the iPad app. A Thursday puzzle with the expected challenges, but well worth a look.

  36. Oh Picard. Tell me that was a green screen photo. I am dizzy just looking at it!

CED- you are an imp! I nearly snorted my Earl Grey tea when I saw that cake!

PK- hope you are feeling better. We have an allergist here who is vaccinating people with previous vaccine reactions. She starts with very small doses and increases gradually, with 15 to 20 minute intervals.

  37. No one explained to me yesterday why "Went for the worm" = BIT. Since that WORM showed up again today, I'll renew my query.

On a hunch, I LIU to see if there might be some other FLAMES team in ATLanta for some other sport. I found several other Flames (Liberty U., Lee U., U of IL @ Chicago, but none in Georgia.

(Sorry, wrote this hours age but got distracted and forgot to post it.)

  38. Hello from Kevin, thank you everyone for solving. Always a joy to collaborate with my frequent collaboration partner Andrea. I'll be meeting her and one or two other constructors for dinner in SF on Thursday.

I don't have anything too profound to say about the theme. SILLY is a fun word so I felt it would be cool to build a puzzle around it.

We went back and forth between GOOSE BUMPS and GOOSE FLESH, and I know some of you did as well. We considered a few different John Updike book titles for the RABBIT * answer, but decided those might not quite be well known enough for some solvers. Happy to get a grid spanner with STRING ORCHESTRA. PUTTY KNIFE is the only option for PUTTY *.

    Take care everyone. - KevinC

  40. C E D .... That was a perfect cake for our Lucina ! How appropriate.
I marvel at your encyclopedic capacities, to search the entire world wide net...

Anon -T, that Yosemite Park, underwear misunderstanding was meant to be a joke ... a silly one, at that - like our "Silly", theme for today.
It did fit into the lawyers briefs, as well.

Since, I'm already here, I have been looking at Indira Nehru Gandhi's picture. BTW, that was the name she used on the election polls ... might as well use her famous father's moniker, as her maiden name....
BTW, she was married to a zoroastrian, who was some sort of an activist.... Feroze Gandhi. But they were amiably permanently, estranged, long before she rose to become Prime Minister.
Also neither she nor her husband were related to M. K. ("Mahatma") Gandhi.
BTW, Gandhi is a profession, of one who is a grocer, or even a pharmacist. ( Hi Cand Eh! )

The picture shown was taken circa, 1936, when she would have been 18 or 19 years old. Notice the puffed tight sleeves on her blouse, which indicates the years when that style was in fashion. ( a la mode )

  41. CanadianEh: Thank you for your concern and the article on shot allergies. It tells me that I shouldn't get a shot in the grocery pharmacy as intended. I even had allergic reaction to my last allergy shot. I had an epipen for years and the one time I should have used it, I was too sick to go get it and my son was scared and wouldn't. He called his dad who rushed me to the hospital unable to walk and trying to "fade out". My flu shot years ago left me with a high fever & hallucinations and sicker than I ever was with flu. Now that I live alone, I don't have someone to rush me to medical help if the reaction occurs hours after the shot or the next day. Wanted to get a shot to be able to see my son & grandkids at Xmas.

  42. What a beautiful, wonderful day this has been! I was showered with love and greetings from many friends, from my grandchildren and the rest of my family, some on Facebook. Driving home from the restaurant even my car spoke to me as greetings arrived and were transmitted vocally.

Thank you all, again. I can say it is worth reaching another milestone age!

    PK:
You seem to share similar reactions with my sister, Marge, who cannot tolerate the vaccines, either.

    ReplyDelete
  43. PK- hopefully you can find an allergist in your area who could assess your risk, and administer the vaccine in small doses. The benefits of being able to see family would be worth the investigation IMHO.

  44. No problems today. FIR, and I got the theme. Thanks, Kevin, Andrea and Boomer, and thanks for stopping by, Kevin.

    Happy birthday, Lucina!

Picard, I totally agree with you. You are not the first person I have heard dis Suze. I personally didn’t like her presentation or her attitude.

  45. Forget the Alamo by Burroughs is the recent well-written book. So truthful about the battle and Kit Carson among others that the State of Texas has barred teaching from the book.
