ROAMS : Counted ten deer just milling about in our backyard yesterday. Most of the wooded lots in our area have been cleared for construction, but there's still a 5-acre reserve behind our house. The deer have moved in.
FIR in 15, which is a fair Tuesday time for me. I liked this CW, very punny. Only W/O was due to carelessly writing CAR in 63D instead of 62D. Grrr! LOTSA names in this CW, most of which I DNK, but they perped in O.K. so I managed. Thanx MS for the quite enjoyable Tuesday CW. And Hahtoolah you truly outdid yourself today with the cartoons! I especially liked “Hole Foods”, but most were good ones. Thanx for the smiles, and the nice write-up.
FIR, but erased maoism for TAOISM, hmo for PPO, and inept for INAPT. DNK OLSEN, CHALLAH, TPAIN, ANA or NED. Easy to guess ROAR.
One of my favorite restaurants serves soft drinks and teas in MASON jars. Showoffs. When I grew up we could only afford reused jelly jars. (We reused the tins from frozen pot pies and TV dinners, too.)
Thanks to Micah for the fun puzzle. My favorite was "clicking sound" for AHA, once the light bulb finally clicked on. And thanks to Ha2la for another visual treat.
Good Morning, Crossword friends. Correction has been made, Anonymous.
QOD: Sometimes it’s better to look at things than own them … Owning means anxiety and lots of bags to carry around. ~ Tove Jansson (née Tove Marika Jansson; Aug. 9, 1914 ~ June 27, 2001), Finnish author and painter

Thanks H2LH for the laughs, each time I thought the toon was the best the next was was even funnier. 😄
A fun-filled puzzle followed by the Tuesday morning funnies. Thanks for the great start to the day. Next stop . . . the dentist. A little yin a little yang.
I FIR but never noticed the OVEN connection. I'd seen the word CHALLAH before, filled it by perps, but had no idea how it pronounced or what it was. Live and learn.
OLSEN, T-PAIN, ANA, & NED were other unknowns filled by perps. All characters I know from "The Simpsons" show were learned from these puzzles. Rod and Todd are new ones. SPILL- have heard "spill it" or "spill the beans" but never just "spill". AFOOT & ALOFT crossing each other.
I spent yesterday teaching a 17-year old how to parallel park on a street. When I covered up the back-up screen and told him to use his mirrors and turn his head around he didn't know what to do. I explained he absolutely has to know where both the front and back of his Jeep is. No guessing, just know it. The tv screen in the car is just one of the things you use, not the only thing.
Loved the theme. I saw the connections and the puns, but the cute reveal surprised me. I left one cell blank. TPAI- ??? I made an ABC run and rejected the N. "NOONES" going down didn't parse for me. Otherwise it was a quick and easy solve. NJ teachers can get Aetna school board paid heath insurance with extra coverages at no extra cost. Aetna made concessions because we are a large group At first, providers doubted that they would be paid and had to consult Aetna. Now it is not questioned. DO, that reminds me of the time the lots behind our church were cleared for developers. The deer, suddenly deprived of habitat, descended on the neighboring vegetable and flower gardens, practically denuding them every year. We joked that we were planting salad for the deer. Bundt cakes in the traditional form were very popular in the 1960's. I learned today that that they can take other shapes which I have never seen. I remember the many house parties we had in those days showing off our cooking and baking skills. We all wore "dress up" attire. It was so much fun. I love your Tuesday blogs, Susan, always fun and informative.
Terrific Tuesday. Thanks for the fun, Micah and Hahtoolah. I FIRed in good time, but it took an AHA moment for the theme to drop. Yes, unclefred, Meta would explain that Bun in the Oven. Was BUNDT an Easter Egg? LOL Ray-o re RYE humour.
We had a mini-body theme with ARMS, TORSO, NOSES, HAIR, and even AFOOT! Also some numbers with ONE UP and TEN. NOSES above AROMAS was cute, as was ADORE crossing IDOL.
Proper parsing was required for TYPE B and T-PAIN. Same for NO ONES. I changed ALL okay to GOOD. Hand up for Lotta before LOTSA. I liked the clue for ROTOR.
Go to the Jumble site for OMK’s excellent HAIKUs. I prefer to travel incognito and will not SPILL the tea.
Hatoolah, Thank you for the incredibly fun write up! It's amazing how you can find so many suitable comics. If you get the chance, you may want to edit the spelling of nurse in your 12D comment.
Good morning. Thank you, Micah, and thank you, Hahtoolah.
That puzzle felt clean. Like a C.C or Mark McClain puzzle. I liked it.
Apt cartoon for PUN IN THE OVEN. Hahtoolah, I would guess that your reaction upon finding it was "AHA!, that's the one !"
First saw Elizabeth Olsen in the movie Liberal Arts.
The design of the Atari logo always reminds me of Wilson Hall at Fermilab. Perhaps that's where the graphics designer for the Atari logo got the idea ?
D-O, you know that where the deer consolidate, the hunters will follow. I'd make sure that your adjacent wooded lot is well marked with No Hunting / No Trespassing signs. And ditto for the owners of the lots comprising the 5 acres - at least until they sell out to the developers. I'd get to know the local game warden, and put the telephone number on speed dial.
Maybe I've been watching too many episodes of Lone Star Law. It's the Animal Planet series that was a follow on to North Woods Law, about game and wildlife officers in Maine. North Woods Law then moved to the conservation activities in New Hampshire. I think I like Lone Star Law better because it is so difficult to understand the accents of the people in North Woods Law. Thank goodness for subtitles.
Easy, breezy Monday. Loved the themers and the very funny reveal. Only unknowns were T Pain and Ned, as clued, and only w/o was Nova/Idol.
Thanks, Micah, for a cheerful start to the week and thanks, Hahtoolah, for the many chuckles your extensive cartoon collection provided. They were all comical but I particularly liked the chicken on the witness stand and the Ladder/Step ladder.
Enjoyed the PUN IN THE OVEN theme. I wondered how many people would know CHALLAH. Sometimes the Jewish Community Center leaves a basket of CHALLAH on our doorstep. It is tasty, but I feel others are more deserving.
TPAIN had me stuck. Had KNOW before LOOP which at least gave TWAIN. FIR.
I had an overwhelming sense of how vulnerable and alone we were as it flew off.
From Yesterday: Jayce Thank you for acknowledging my post about "human rights president" Jimmy Carter sending $250 million of weapons to Indonesia to slaughter 200,000 innocent people in TIMOR. So they could steal their land and claim it as part of Indonesia. To be more explicit, this is exactly the same as what Russia is doing in Ukraine. Glad that we are on the side of justice this time.
When will be your MRI or has it already happened? I had a similar experience. Good that you are fighting for proper care.
FIW with NO ONES being my nemesis/Natick. I was - as was Yellowrocks - hesitant to use that term as it didn't suss for me, either
Interesting that in an upcoming puzzle, I used "ROAR" with a similar clue. The editor vetoed the clue thinking that many folks might not know of Ms Perry
I'll take a CSO to HAIKU, although WC has convinced me to call them "Moe-kus". Look for a few this Friday. C-Eh, I was unaware that OKL was doing HAIKUs now. Thought he just did limericks
Delightful Tuesday puzzle, many thanks for this treat, Micah. And Hahtoolah, your pictures are always a real delight. They're clever and fun and make me laugh--thanks for those too.
Yes, the body sure dominated the theme of this puzzle. I just hope that no one had all that -PAIN and all that ACHE in their TORSO or their ARMS or aFOOT.
And if they had PAIN in their NOSES it would also make it tough for them to appreciate any AROMAS.
I bet our HERO in this puzzle is a TYPE B who makes fans ADORE him and ROAR when they see him playing a LEAD in a movie. He often just FLOORs LOTSA viewers.
ELENA and ANA and Elizabeth OLSEN all have interesting HAIR, which deserves a HAIKU--only sadly I'm not good at three LINE verses.
Thank you Micah for BAKING us such a PhUN puzzle filled with AROMATIC delights. Unfortunately I was TORTEurered this morning by an FIW (see below), but I enjoyed your delightful CONFECTIONS nonetheless.
And thank you Hahtoolah for LOTSA Tuesday hilarity. You may have outdone yourself today. It was ALL GOOD.
Just a few favs (gotta go pick up my car from the shop):
1A ROAR. DNK this song, but the clue kinda gave it away.
5A TYPEB. Before I retired I was the other TYPE.
15A HAIKU. I wonder if MOE will grace us with a riff on this beautiful form today.
Thank you, Micah, for the interesting puzzle which I finished at about 6 AM then returned to bed. It was a restless night for me, I guess in anticipation of my trip today. Also, it took a very long time to confirm my trip. My internet was down so I had to call and it was after 12 when I finally talked to someone. I'll be gone for a couple of weeks.
Hello Cornerites! I'm home from my cycling trip in the Canadian Rockies. It was breathtaking (both visually & altitude-wise)! I enjoyed every minute! Even though I was out of practice, I managed to FIR. The puns were fun(s)! Wonderful to come back to Hahtoolah's well-chosen comics. My favorite was "lotsa witnesses". Also, thank you for revealing "Type B". I filled it with the perps but still couldn't see it. I learn so much from reading the posts where people find extra themes in the puzzles, e.g., mini-body. (Hello CanadianEh!) I'll take a CSO for SOURDOUGH. I've been baking with sourdough for 36 years. Bill Black (the cowboss on Oregon's MC Ranch at the time) taught me the basics and now I completely skip the bread aisle. I've had to make new starters over the years because of moving over oceans. My current starter is 8 years old.
sumdaze, I recently bought an E-bike and have started to get back into riding after a twenty-five year lay off. Even with the motorized assist I find the steep hills difficult. Fortunately, the bike has a "walk mode".
Anonymous @ 12:44. Good for you! I would estimate that 50% of the bikes on my local rec trail now are E-bikes. It's nice seeing people enjoying being outside.
sumdaze- glad you had a great time in our beautiful Rockies. You must be in great shape to do all that cycling (but you did admit to being out of CW-solving shape!) That sourdough sounds delicious . . . and the AROMAS!
Yes, CMoe, we love your Moe-kus, but OMK has been making some good attempts using the Jumble words. Pop over to the Jumble site. We have added Wordle there too.
Thank you for the compliment, CanadianEh!. I trained for the trip by pulling my 63 lb. (28.6 kg.) dog in her doggie bicycle trailer to strengthen my legs and by swimming to strengthen my lungs. Nevertheless, the climb to Bow Summit and Peyto Lake about did me in. The gorgeous views were definitely worth the effort, though!
Sumdaze, welcome back. Sounds as if you really enjoyed your time.
While you were away, some of us have been playing this game called "Let's guess CanadianEh!'s real name"
She had mentioned that her name is "old fashioned" and is seldom given or even heard these days.
Yesterday, Ray-O and I both had thoughts that it might be Penelope.
I forgot to venture a guess in my earlier comments. I'm going to guess Mabel today.
Lucina, glad to hear that you are able to get a break from the heat. I think we could all use a little relief.
Who was the other day that said their favorite Stone was EMMA ? Was that you, Bill ? I had just come in for a brief break from the lawn and garden work in the front yard and to cool off in this 75 degree weather, and this quirky coming-of-age movie "Easy A" had just started on Freeform. Probably not for everyone due to the subject matter, but I'm finding it so funny.
TTP @2:47 PM I cannot tell a lie, it was I who mentioned EMMA. I've encountered her in Blogs at least twice and found that she is not only talented and beautiful, but down to earth as well. She has also checked the O box on her journey toward an EGOT.
A fine Sommersmith PZL! And we can always tell who the moderator is, as she mines the very best classic cartoons for us--none other than Hahtoolah!
Yes, the PUN IN THE OVEN theme is a delight. An additional prize for Yours Truly is the tribute to HAIKU, as I usually compose one a day and post it on Owen's Jumble site! ~ OMK ____________ DR: One diagonal, near side This one yields an anagram (12 of 15 letters) referring to the psychological state of one who suspects that everything--starting with the very butter on his morning toast--is FAKE! Musings -SPILL – Do recent puzzles I learned the phrase, “SPILL the tea” in place of “SPILL the beans” for “Keep me in the LOOP” -We gave LOTSA abuse to my friend’s steel TONKA toys but they, uh, kept on truckin’. -Roman numerals – Our recent waitress had VENI, VIDE, VICI tattooed on the underside of her forearm with two sets of Roman numerals below that. She was surprised I knew the phrase and told me that one of the Roman numerals was the year of her birth and the other was the year she got sober. -Bison ROAMED the Great Plains not buffalo -Susan, your cartoons are always a fun additive
"I trained for the trip by pulling my 63 lb. (28.6 kg.) dog in her doggie bicycle trailer to strengthen my legs and by swimming to strengthen my lungs."
What an accompIishment but I got tired and short of breath just reading that...😢
I liked this puzzle. I love puns. Perps got me through the names. Last to fill was that N crossing TPAIN and NOONES. Hand up for changing In the KNOW to In the LOOP. I also changed SCENTS to AROMAS. Fun puzzle.
Hahtoolah, as usual I very much enjoyed your recap.
Picard, it looks like my MRI will be done in late September.
Malodorous Manatee, I just got back from the dentist.
Last day at me ol' house. This garage computer and my stereo-receiver will be the last things to go. Hahtoolah's QOD kinda sums it up ;-)
Thanks for waking me with a ROAR, Micah. Punny puzzle about my favorite food (dipped in olive oil of course).
Hahtoolah - LOL as always. Thanks for the effort to find all the funny / relevant comics to brighten our DAYS. Oh,.. Skype is mostly Teams now. Gotta love when Micro$oft buys somethin'
WO: in the know->LOOP ESPs: ANA, CHALLADAYS, T-PAIN | NOONES (YR - I needed Hahtoolah to parse that one too!) Fav: TONKA - had a big-ol' dump truck at paternal Grands' when I was a kid. Solid toy.
Youngest, the home-baker, has a four-hole mini BUNDT pan. Her lemon bundts are to die for.
Welcome back Sumdaze. Any breathtaking pictures to share?
BigE - Oy! Then number of times I snap at the kids "use your *explitive* mirrors." The backup camera is nice but...
Ray-O: Today's puzzle was for you, no? LOL RYE Humo[u]r //in case C, Eh! reads :-)
HG - she got a tattoo sober?!?
Jinx - Oh, you grew up poor? Jelly Jars? You were lucky! [Monty Python]
Bulk trash should show by 5p CDT and then I'll be permanently at new house.
Thank You Micah Sommersmith for a relatively easy Tuesday puzzle ... I say 'relatively' because other Tuesdays have been completed wuth faster times. It took me, all of the three horiz. long answers to figure out the puns and the theme. TPain and some other names, including the Katie Perry song was a DNK, but had to be sussed...
Thank You Hahtoolah, for a cheerful and funny review of the CW on your blog .... loved your cartoons and other comments. I have eaten challah bread, and I recently bought it at Trader Joe's .... I think it is pronounced as ' KH-aa-lah' ....
Have a great couple of weeks, Lucina. FWIW, Anonymous at 12:44 was me. I was using my cell phone from which my home screen links had "miraculously" disappeared. For a while I was unable to log in to comment with my screen name. I think, though, that I have been able to straighten that all out.
Vid, we have all kinds of tort abuse. People play the tort lottery all the time. Get stood up on a second date? Sue. Order coffee and burn yourself because of your clumsiness? Sue the store who sold the coffee. California (and maybe other states) ups the ante in the game with a policy nicknamed "deep pockets". Say a drunk hits you on a mountain road and is found by a jury to be 99% at fault. The other 1% fault was found to be with the contractor who painted the center line, which was 2" off center. The jury awards $990,000 from the drunk and $10,000 from the contractor. The drunk only has insurance to cover $100,000, and has no other assets. In California, the drunk's insurance company covers $100,000, and the contractor is stuck for the other $900,000.
Sorry I didn't have any poems for you this morning. But here's a poem I wrote for Light this week that they didn't use:
[T]he modified R9X trades the standard Hellfire’s explosive warhead for a halo of six metal fins that look like swords and are sharp enough to slice through concrete and steel on their way to a target. The lethal payload has earned the R9X nicknames like “the flying Ginsu” or “the Ninja bomb” within the defense community. -NY Post
Al-Zawahiri was no kidder. Al-Zawahiri was al-Qaida. Al-Zawahiri the mastermind Found the R-9-X unkind.
Al-Zawahiri, for sunrise prayer, Used the balcony of his lair. A Hellfire Ninja, at 6:18 Wiped the lair of balcony, clean!
When the Ginsu drone was spun, Al-Qaida's leader was undone! When six blades left their quiver Al-Zawahiri was chopped liver!
Re: haiku I'll occasionally write one, but they're rare only compared to all the other verse forms I use.
Senior year of high school. I'm in my religious-fanatic phase, transitioning from Billy Graham to Mormonism. English subject is haiku. I insist that haiku is not poetry in the English sense. No rhyme, no rhythm. The 17-syllable limit is arbitrary, because it's designed for Japanese which has a different concept of syllable than English. Teach gives assignment of writing 3 or more haiku of our own. I turn in a paper of a dozen or so 17-syllable verses -- from Proverbs and Song of Solomon, in haiku 5-7-5 format. Actually, I found they made excellent haiku, even fitting the thematic content. I don't know what Teach thought of it, but I passed the class. And afterwards I felt more attuned with the form. How I wish I still had that paper!
One of the most interesting things about this puzzle is the “meta “ nature of the reveal, which is a pun about puns, if you catch my drift.
ReplyDeleteOther than that, I don’t have much to say about this puzzle. FIR, so I’m happy.

Loved the theme. I saw the connections and the puns, but the cute reveal surprised me.
ReplyDeleteI left one cell blank.
ReplyDeleteI FIRed in good time, but it took an AHA moment for the theme to drop.
Wishing you all a great day.
Hatoolah, Thank you for the incredibly fun write up! It's amazing how you can find so many suitable comics.
ReplyDeleteIf you get the chance, you may want to edit the spelling of nurse in your 12D comment.
ReplyDeleteGood morning.
Gotta run. The lawn and gardens beckon.
Good Morning:
ReplyDeleteEasy, breezy Monday.
Have a great day.
Actually, it's Tuesday. But I'm thinking you knew that and were making a point about how easy the puzzle was, right?
ReplyDeleteOh, sorry, Irish Miss, the above was meant for you. I neglected to put in your name, sorry about that.
ReplyDeleteSubgenius @ 10:51 ~Don’t mind me! I guess I did find it Monday easy and forgot today is Tuesday. Or else I was not fully awake! 😴
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the PUN IN THE OVEN theme. I wondered how many people would know CHALLAH. Sometimes the Jewish Community Center leaves a basket of CHALLAH on our doorstep. It is tasty, but I feel others are more deserving.
ReplyDeleteTPAIN had me stuck. Had KNOW before LOOP which at least gave TWAIN. FIR.
This HELICOPTER deposited us on Mendenhall Glacier then flew away.
I had an overwhelming sense of how vulnerable and alone we were as it flew off.
From Yesterday:
Jayce Thank you for acknowledging my post about "human rights president" Jimmy Carter sending $250 million of weapons to Indonesia to slaughter 200,000 innocent people in TIMOR.
Puzzling thoughts:
ReplyDeleteFIW with NO ONES being my nemesis/Natick.
Thanks Susan and Micah
OMK does the Jumble hints as a haiku
DeleteDelightful Tuesday puzzle, many thanks for this treat, Micah. And Hahtoolah, your pictures are always a real delight. They're clever and fun and make me laugh--thanks for those too.
ReplyDeleteYes, the body sure dominated the theme of this puzzle.
Have a great day, everybody.
Thank you Micah for BAKING us such a PhUN puzzle filled with AROMATIC delights. Unfortunately I was TORTEurered this morning by an FIW (see below), but I enjoyed your delightful CONFECTIONS nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you Hahtoolah for LOTSA Tuesday hilarity.
27A MASON. Canning as a food preservation method originated to aid soldiers during the Napoleonic Wars, but was perfected for home use by John Landis Mason.
48A TPAIN. DNK him and waited for perps. But passed MIRE for MOOR (which DUH I spelled MORE) and lost my FIR.
44D ESAU. I'm still waiting for his brother to FILL in for him.
54D MERGE. Always fun to do on English roundabouts. Worse still on the 8 lane roundabouts in Harbin China, where I met my adopted grandson.
Cheers,
Bill
Ray, I too thought of two alternatives for "DNA source." But both of mine had five letters.
ReplyDeleteTony Express: Darn autocorrect!
ReplyDeleteHola!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Micah, for the interesting puzzle which I finished at about 6 AM then returned to bed. It was a restless night for me, I guess in anticipation of my trip today. Also, it took a very long time to confirm my trip. My internet was down so I had to call and it was after 12 when I finally talked to someone. I'll be gone for a couple of weeks.
Have good time in the next few weeks!
Hello Cornerites! I'm home from my cycling trip in the Canadian Rockies. It was breathtaking (both visually & altitude-wise)! I enjoyed every minute!
ReplyDeleteEven though I was out of practice, I managed to FIR.
(Hello CanadianEh!)
I'll take a CSO for SOURDOUGH.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous @ 12:44. Good for you! I would estimate that 50% of the bikes on my local rec trail now are E-bikes. It's nice seeing people enjoying being outside.
ReplyDeletesumdaze- glad you had a great time in our beautiful Rockies. You must be in great shape to do all that cycling (but you did admit to being out of CW-solving shape!)
ReplyDeleteThat sourdough sounds delicious . . . and the AROMAS!
Yes, CMoe, we love your Moe-kus, but OMK has been making some good attempts using the Jumble words. Pop over to the Jumble site. We have added Wordle there too.
Have a great trip Lucina!
ReplyDeleteSafe travels, Lucina! I will miss your posts.
Sumdaze, welcome back. Sounds as if you really enjoyed your time.
ReplyDeleteWhile you were away, some of us have been playing this game called "Let's guess CanadianEh!'s real name"
DeleteA fine Sommersmith PZL!
ReplyDeleteAnd we can always tell who the moderator is, as she mines the very best classic cartoons for us--none other than Hahtoolah!
Yes, the PUN IN THE OVEN theme is a delight. An additional prize for Yours Truly is the tribute to HAIKU, as I usually compose one a day and post it on Owen's Jumble site!
~ OMK

ReplyDelete-SPILL – Do recent puzzles I learned the phrase, “SPILL the tea” in place of “SPILL the beans” for “Keep me in the LOOP”
-We gave LOTSA abuse to my friend’s steel TONKA toys but they, uh, kept on truckin’.
-Roman numerals – Our recent waitress had VENI, VIDE, VICI tattooed on the underside of her forearm with two sets of Roman numerals below that. She was surprised I knew the phrase and told me that one of the Roman numerals was the year of her birth and the other was the year she got sober.
-Bison ROAMED the Great Plains not buffalo
-Susan, your cartoons are always a fun additive

ReplyDelete"I trained for the trip by pulling my 63 lb. (28.6 kg.) dog in her doggie bicycle trailer to strengthen my legs and by swimming to strengthen my lungs."
What an accompIishment but I got tired and short of breath just reading that...😢
May I humbly inquire how old you are?
😊
@3:27 PM. Tsk, tsk a NO NO Ray - O.
DeleteI liked this puzzle. I love puns. Perps got me through the names. Last to fill was that N crossing TPAIN and NOONES. Hand up for changing In the KNOW to In the LOOP. I also changed SCENTS to AROMAS. Fun puzzle.
ReplyDeleteHahtoolah, as usual I very much enjoyed your recap.
Picard, it looks like my MRI will be done in late September.
Malodorous Manatee, I just got back from the dentist.
Good wishes to you all.
Hi All!
ReplyDeleteLast day at me ol' house.
WO: in the know->LOOP
ESPs: ANA, CHALLADAYS, T-PAIN | NOONES (YR - I needed Hahtoolah to parse that one too!)
Fav: TONKA - had a big-ol' dump truck at paternal Grands' when I was a kid. Solid toy.
Youngest, the home-baker, has a four-hole mini BUNDT pan. Her lemon bundts are to die for.
Welcome back Sumdaze. Any breathtaking pictures to share?
BigE - Oy! Then number of times I snap at the kids "use your *explitive* mirrors."
The backup camera is nice but...
Cheers, -T
TTP @ 2:47. Louise???
ReplyDeleteRay-O. 56 (Yikes!)
sumdaze @4:32 PM A mere babe in the woods around here.

ReplyDeleteThank You Micah Sommersmith for a relatively easy Tuesday puzzle ...
I remember the Bundt Cake, that the groom's parents bring to their son s engagement in, 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' ..... " ... there's a Hole in the cake !!!...."
Hah2lah, ... I thought of you and Lemonade, when I saw Torte Reform .... although I dont know what sort of reform, Torts could use.
Have a nice day, you all, and a great week ahead.
Have a great couple of weeks, Lucina.
ReplyDeleteFWIW, Anonymous at 12:44 was me.
ReplyDeleteSorry I didn't have any poems for you this morning. But here's a poem I wrote for Light this week that they didn't use:
ReplyDelete[T]he modified R9X trades the standard Hellfire’s explosive warhead for a halo of six metal fins that look like swords and are sharp enough to slice through concrete and steel on their way to a target. The lethal payload has earned the R9X nicknames like “the flying Ginsu” or “the Ninja bomb” within the defense community.
-NY Post
Al-Zawahiri was no kidder.
Al-Zawahiri was al-Qaida.
Al-Zawahiri the mastermind
Found the R-9-X unkind.
Al-Zawahiri, for sunrise prayer,
Used the balcony of his lair.
A Hellfire Ninja, at 6:18
Wiped the lair of balcony, clean!
When the Ginsu drone was spun,
Al-Qaida's leader was undone!
When six blades left their quiver
Al-Zawahiri was chopped liver!
Re: haiku
ReplyDeleteI'll occasionally write one, but they're rare only compared to all the other verse forms I use.
Messed this one up in a couple of places, for an FIW. Terrible proofreading, with a little bit of stubbornness tossed into the mix.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Micah and Hahtoolah. Enjoyed the puzzle and the expo.
