I can put on my Carnac the Magnificent hat and make a Super Bowl prediction: the Texans won't be in it. Liked the RICH/RICO pairing, and the SO to moi. Thanx, Matt. Enjoyed the tour, Boomer. (Yes I remember the 3¢ stamp, and the hoohah the ensued when they raised it to 4¢ -- a 33% price increase! I grew up hearing "hot water heater". In my old house I have a boiler for the radiators, and it also provides unlimited hot water in lieu of a separate water heater.
They are installing wifi here in the RV resort. Supposed to be available next month. Finally I'll be able to see the clever YouTube links posted by my Cornerite friends again.
FLN: I remember my first taste of beer, wine and distilled spirits. YUCK! Same with cigarettes. But I managed to develop a taste for all of them (except scotch). All that is behind me now, and I'm trying to lose some of that behind now.
I like to watch NBA games occasionally to watch the stars I watched wen they were in college. Former Kentucky players have NBA contracts that total over $2,000,000,000. And their scholarship offers are good for life, so they can go back to college after their playing days are over. Not important for the pro stars, but great for the marginal players that won't get rich by playing the sport.
I'll have to flip back between the football championship and the Capitals hockey game tonight. Unless the Caps play better than they have the last couple of games, I'll be watching a lot of football.

The joke was that the Pope was coming to Kentucky because he had heard that there was a Nunn there that was screwing people for a nickle.

It is just great sharing with my friends on the blog. Great photos, Spitz. I'm jealous, I never got a white uniform. Only a green one. 3 cents to mail a Christmas card out of a box of 25 that cost about a dollar. No sales tax on a pack or two of baseball cards in hopes of finding a Willie, Mickey or the Duke. I think the least I can remember a stamp for a letter was 5 Cents - but a 3 cent post card!
I had a "Chatty Cathy" doll - but as a young girl it was hard to pull the cord the right amount to have it feed back the sound without having it either stay pulled out or not come out at all. I think most were broken fairly soon - but then you just had a doll to play with - which was okay, but I'm sure it cost much more for the doll to be "CHATTY"!

The total eclipse of 2017 was, if my memory serves, 98% coverage in Atlanta. It was crazy. The eclipse glasses sold out weeks ahead of the event. People were freaking out while others were price gouging folks with their extra glasses. I viewed from a city park where they were giving out the glasses until they ran out. It was pretty cool, but with the 2% of non eclipse we did not have total darkness. Difficult to describe. I will apply a CW favorite to my visual experience. It was EERIE! My kids went with friends to South Carolina for the 100% and said it went totally dark. All in all, with the exception of the price gouging, it was a cool experience!

I have something else to share with the corner. Not sure why I haven't before, will do my best to keep it short.
Last February, my sister in law in Orlando was diagnosed with Leukemia. Her only treatment option was a stem cell transplant. With no remaining family in Orlando we moved her in with us for the transplant. Atlanta has 2 of the top 10 transplant centers so it was a no-brainer.
It has been a challenge for our family, but at the end of the day we are grateful that we were able to do it.
She moved in at the beginning of April, went in-patient for chemo for a month before the transplant. Home for a month gaining strength. June was the pre-transplant program. She had more chemo and full body irradiation. DH was her match. He had injections for a few weeks that increased his stem cell production and pushed them out into his blood stream so they could be harvested. He had a central line put in. Then was connected to a machine that drew his blood, spun out the stem cells and returned his blood. That was continuous for 8 hrs.
The next day, 6/21 was the transplant. It was a 30 minute infusion! Anti-climatic to say the least!
The next 100 days played out as expected, but were really hard for all of us. There were so many awful side effects. She required 24/7 care, daily trips to the infusion center, in and out of the hospital, dietary restrictions, no contact with people, no restaurants, shopping etc. The house had to be sanitized and maintained. And she brought her dog......
So now we just passed 180 days. She is doing great. Most of the restrictions are still in place, some are reduced. Now it is only once a week to the infusion center and 5 days of chemo every 4th week. Big meeting with doctor on Wednesday, one more week of chemo in February and then we are all hoping she will be able to go home! Fingers crossed!
SiL, DH and I cannot believe we lived through this whole thing. The Big Guy in the Sky must have been watching over us. Lots of gratitude!

I got the NBA CAL theme, but some Canadian disadvantage with FDIC, and GNMA. Fortunately, the Presidents perped easily, as I don't know their numbers.
Canadians buy Pop in litre bottles (yes and our gas is in litres also). Actually, the most common bottle is 2L, with various smaller sizes like 591ml and 710ml (plus 355ml cans).
Yes Husker G, that would be $1.18 in Canadian dollars per litre/$3.32 in American dollars per American gallon (which is not the same as an Imperial gallon). Are you all confused yet!?
It costs $.90 to mail a standard letter within Canada. $1.27 to USA. And that is in Canadian dollars (please add 30-35% exchange; are you confused again!?). No wonder letter writing has become passé.
Is OKed (vs. Okayed) not considered a short-form? No indication in the clue.

(I had to console myself over and over, for mail was generally much, much slower. Airmail was not yet the norm.)
Sorry the Vikings are no longer in contention--and that it had to be my 'Niners who took them out. I was glad they handled the Saints. Minnesota is a favorite team of mine too, except of course when they're up agin' my hometown.

I assure you I do not have any Ring devices, Echo devices, or any other "spy" devices in our home. Perhaps you are referring to the Liftmaster garage door opener we got installed when we got our new garage door. It has an option of connecting to the internet via our home's WiFi but after a discussion about that with you on this blog, I never set that feature up. Our garage door opener has no connection to our WiFi or to the internet whatsoever, thanks to your good advice.
LW and I have fond memories of our mailman when I was in graduate school. He was a rather strange fellow and always wore the short uniform pants regardless of how cold it was. He had an apricot tree in his back yard and would make batches of delicious dried apricots every season, which he happily shared with us and others on his route who wanted them. Helluva nice guy. We only knew his first name: Frank.

Is soda sold in anything other than 2 liter (or litre, for C eh) bottles?
I remember the time in my ute when I was in Detroit for a meeting; I thought it would be cool to cross over into Windsor ON for dinner (it was). I needed gas on the way back and stopped at a station there (Esso, maybe?). I couldn’t believe how cheap the gas was! Then as I watched the total sale going up and up and up I finally caught on to the litre (liter?) business. Bummer. Oh well. It was a fun evening anyway.
I also remember when our mailman made three deliveries each day, and one on Sunday, around Christmas time when everyone sent cards to everyone else. Today—not so much.

Youngest's car saga... USAA insurance totaled it like she totaled that deer.
So, I need to buy her 'college car' now. I'm looking at any late-model Toyota sedan or Honda's Civic with less than 25k miles on it. Both are reliable, relatively cheap to repair (as opposed to DW's Alfa), and get good gas mileage. Any make/models I'm overlooking? I know you were looking at Subaru, Jacye [did I get that right? Didn't look it up again :-)]
I hope I can her find one this week; I forgot what a PITA it is to get her and "Chatty Cathy" from dance at 8:30p.

Don't be surprised if you and your family sleep a lot: even just being out of the direct firing line of the treatments is exhausting. My wife and I had four, sometimes five, visits a week to oncology. When it was over, all I did was sleep for three months.
