Theme: Moving on.
A broken heart is a painful malady, but constructor MaryEllen Uthlaut suggests there's a short path to recovery. She writes:
61-Across. Terse advice for the brokenhearted, and what appears four times in this puzzle: GET OVER IT.
Indeed, MaryEllen has placed GET over IT four times in the grid, even in the reveal at 61-Across! Take a look:
Very clever, MaryEllen! Now that we've gotten over it, let's get into it!

46. Needle: TEASE. More English language confusion. To needle can be to tease with goading remarks or behaviors. And yet, there is such a thing as a "teasing needle" used to tear scientific speciments into tiny shreds, or to "tease out" a knot in threads or chains.

This Thanksgiving, I am thankful:
- to the crossword constructors who challenge us with these wonderful puzzles;
- to C.C., who created this Corner where mysteries of the puzzles are explained by dedicated bloggers, and who gave me the opportunity to join their ranks;
- to all who read the blog, and especially to those who comment;
- to DH, who smiles upon this activity and who proves that if the first marriage doesn't succeed, you should GET OVER IT and move on to something better.
I hope that Thanksgiving brings comfort to all of you. Several of you have suffered great losses in the past year. May you find thanks for what you had, and for what you still have. Peace to all.

I didn’t know what the
theme was until the reveal - then I got it. Pretty clever, if you ask me.
Anyway, FIR, so I’m happy.
And Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
First of all, I’m grateful to NaomiZ for putting into words that echo my sentiments about all the people that make up the Corner, the bloggers who work gratis for our daily entertainment, the eclectic group of commenters, and of course the constructors who make this all possible.
As for the puzzle, a creative theme which seemed more like an earlier week solve as I FIR in 10:06, friendly perps got me the unknowns PSY, KAT, TIRANË, and I had to change fetid to FETOR. ODERED seems like an odd word. No circles needed to see the theme after the reveal, but I missed the one on the bottom. Thanks MaryEllen for the enjoyable solve, and to NaomiZ for the write up, nice pic of you and the little one!
Major winter blizzard here, my son and gf trying to get here from Seattle have spent the last two nights in Chicago, airport here closed due to winds and snow, will be lucky to make it today.
Happy Thanksgiving all and as Naomi suggests this is a day to enjoy and share no matter what the year has brought. The puzzle was a nice appetizer from Mary Ellen who has given us many joyous challenges over the years. The theme was
really the only real difficulty and the type I am amazed is created.
I did No know GIL as clued but it was easily filled. As Phil said a real walk in the park for a Thursday. Thank you Naomi. I agree the pic is very sweet though my arm would get tired. Such is age.
Good morning!
Gotta love a puzzle by a setter whose last name begins with UT. Thanx, MaryEllen. NaomiZ, it appears that you and I are a lot alike...in the things we don't know. FETOR was a learning moment. How did I miss that? "DODGE TRUCKS" is a misnomer. Ram is its own brand; it can be sold by any dealership in the Stellantis family.
Hope all cornerites enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving with family -- not stuck in some airport or stranded on some highway.
FIW, missing my WAG @ FETOd x dAITA. One erasure, usc->USA.
ITINERARY came to me right away, but how to spel it did not. My ITINERARY is food and football today, and winterizing my motorhome and returning to Norfolk tomorrow. (Wish the cold weather had held off for a couple of days.)
I'm thankful for the 34 years I had with my wife, for the wonderful staff at the home hospice program, and for her son and daughter and their spouses who were enormously helpful in her final couple of months, as well as the three weeks since she passed. My wife and I certainly were fans of GET OVER IT. It took me three marriages and her four marriages to finally got it right.
KAT is very good as a divorced mother of two who, out of desperation, moves back in with her dad (Tool Time Tim Allen) in Shifting Gears. I like the show, but I'm a little surprised it was renewed for a second season.
Thanks to MaryEllen for the fun challenge. My favorite was "lasting impression" for DENT, especially since Shifting Gears centers around a car restoral garage (essentially a fancy body shop.) And thanks to NaomiZ for another fun and funny review. May favorite part was the pic of you and the wee one.
Took 6:55 today for me to forGET about my troubles.
How about you? How long did IT take you to finish?
I would like to echo what NaomiZ said (assuming DH is not her first marriage). I am thankful for this Corner, and all who frequent it.
I am not thankful for circles.
YooperPhil, I hope your son & his girlfriend arrive safely.
I wish safe travels to everyone.
FIR. And Happy Thanksgiving to all.
I had to take a WAG at the crossing of fetor and raita. My guesser is working today. I filled ode because of the perps but I had to have it explained here.
I got half the theme seeing the word "get" in the answers but missed the part where it was over "it".
So overall a so-so puzzle.
Hola! WEES. I encountered the same stumbling blocks but finished it in the end with one error. Drat! I had SIS instead of SIB and since I know nothing about BRIDGE that looked fine to me. I shall GET OVER IT, but it rankles me.
It's tough to choose between MONET and MANET but ORDEAL finalized it.
ODORED just seems wrong! And eventually I will know all those Norse gods if they continue to appear in crosswords. TYR today, ODIN tomorrow, perhaps.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Enjoy food, fun and family!
The clue is Some Ram pickups. Prior to 2010, Ram was part of the Dodge family.
That cross was a WAG for me as well.
Happy Thanksgiving to all! I want to echo Naomi's wise words, except I have no experience with the last one. Today is our 45th anniversary! And yes, we were married on a Thanksgiving as well (very small wedding and everyone had the day off anyway). I thought that would make it easy to remember each year, but the date always changes! Grrr. Luckily, RightBrain is an angel and puts up with my shenanigans.
Thanks, Naomi, for that action(?) shot of you doing a crossword with your second husband...I mean wonderful grandson. You're raising him right!
Musings
-I could look at FETO_/_AITA until the cows come home and I would never get it. Fetid means foul-smelling, and my knowledge of Indian cuisine is practically nonexistent.
-A BLANK tile would have been very useful there!
-I think all RAM pickups are DODGE TRUCKS not just some
-The gimmick was really clever and took care of GIL (not Hodges!)
-I remember this odd vehicle from the movie Evil Under The Sun that ferried David Suchet as Poirot and other people out to the island.
-A more conventional way to cross water
-Nebraska City is the county seat of OTO(E) County in the SE part of our state
-Georgia capital: Money, no. City, no. Meta reference/ YES!
-EAVED joins EARLINESS from yesterday’s puzzle as “any port in a storm” fill
-Those French guys really know how to throw a picnic!
-ETA for our girls and their families is 11:30 and for the Chiefs/Cowboys FB game is 3:30.
-Naomi had a wonderful write-up, things to be grateful for (for which to be grateful for the grammar police :-) and a lovely picture.
I enjoyed this lovely Thanksgiving treat from Mary Ellen. A cute theme beautifully executed, and lively fill cleverly clued. I actually knew both GIL Scott-Heron and RAITA, which helped with the unknown FETOR. Who doesn't love SAM I AM, enthusiastic purveyor of Green Eggs and Ham?
Thank-you to Mary Ellen for the delightful puzzle, and to Naomi for bringing the words to living color. I concur with your words of gratitude! Happy Thanksgiving to all!
I also had to guess the final unknown letter that wed FETOR and RAITA but got lucky with my first guess.
There was a bit of trickery with the clue for Tirane, considering that the puzzle appeared in an English language newspaper.
We usually see ROME/Italy and ROMA/Italia connections, but Albania is “Albania” in both languages. My Albanian-American mother always spelled it “Tirana.”
Overall, a decent puzzle. 7/10
I worked the puzzle yesterday. Today's newspaper was delivered yesterday. As for the theme, I didn't 'get it' until I filled GET OVER IT by perps and looked over my completed puzzle. My biggest problem was accepting FETOR as a word because I knew the crosses were correct.
Some of those DODGE TRUCKS with Ram in their name have to be old, since they dropped the Dodge name (stupid move) and just changed it to Ram in 2009. Everybody still refers to Ram trucks as Dodge.
MONET or MANET. Just fill M__NET and wait for the perp.
TiranA I knew; TiranE I didn't.
Odor and Fragrant I knew. ODORED is something I've never heard or seen before this puzzle.
Is DAYBED just another name for 'sleeper-sofa'?
GIL, USA, KAT,- those took perps as they weren't known as clued.
Good Morning:
We haven’t seen this type of gimmick in quite some time, probably because it’s a such difficult feat. However, Mary Ellen did a very nice job, using a very succinct but powerful dictum, Get Over It! I enjoyed the solve and much of the cluing and fill, with the exceptions of two words that I have neither seen nor heard in my entire life: Fetor and Odored. However, I concede their legitimacy.
Thanks, Mary Ellen and thanks, Naomi, for the always informative and entertaining write-up. Sweet photo of you and the precious little one. I share your gratefulness for this community of bloggers and commenters. Thanks to CC for creating and nurturing this wonderful group of people who share such sincere friendship and camaraderie on a daily basis.
Rusty Brain, congratulations to you and Mrs. Right Brain on your 45th wedding anniversary. 🥂💐💕
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
I was so annoyed at having to finish with fetor/raita, that I forgot to look for the theme. But I'll get over it...
thank you all...
I too got tripped by the crossing of unknown FETOR, GIL and RAITA. I stay away from Indian food because of the spices, so I wouldn’t need RIATA as NaomiZ describes it.
I confidently entered TIRANa, but the SLED forced me to EMEND my entry, though ODORED gave me pause. Then, because I had SIs instead of SIB and didn’t know ELTON as clued, I missed the BRIDGE TABLE.
So I must have had too much turkey on my mind to think straight this morning, but I’ll GET OVER IT. The weather is great, the sun is shining, and it’s cool but not cold.
Thank you NaomiZ for those wonderful Thanksgiving sentiments and the lovely picture. I am thankful for all of you connected with this corner.
And happy wedding anniversary to Rusty Brain and lovely wife.
Happy Anniversary, Rusty!
An enjoyable start to a Thanksgiving morning. A fun puzzle, and the turkey is in the oven! WAGs & perps were kind today, and I too will Echo NaomiZ. Took two tries for both DW and I to get the whole marriage thing right, too. The second time truly is the charm. 33 years and counting!
Thanks Naomi for the wonderful recap and your Thanksgiving greetings. As for Fetor and Raita just pick a letter out of a hat for me. Otherwise i enjoyed this well constructed puzzle. Enjoy your meals all.
FETOR? ODORED? How about ugly clueing? Not a very good grid if one has to use words no one knows. A lucky solve for me.
Happy Thanksgiving just the same.
Have a great Thanksgiving day, everyone!
And Thor the following day.
Thanksgiving is based upon a myth which we should acknowledge while celebrating!
Happy Anniversary!
What a delightful Thanksgiving treat you gave us with your lovely puzzle today, MaryEllen--thank you so much for that. And we loved your commentary and pictures, NaomiZ--and, most of all, that wonderful picture of you with that adorable baby. Congratulations to you today, for all of that.
So, what might you feel, if you were UNDER the FLU? Clearly the need for some ORANGE TEA, because that would make you feel so good that you might then be ready to TEAM up with friends and go to a DRAG RACE. After that it wouldn't be surprising if you felt a bit RIGID and needed to stop taking a STAND and felt you had to head off to get a nap in your DAY BED. These directions are not a bit EERIE and don't encourage you to engage in any SNEAKY ANTICS, so there's nothing you need to do to GET OVER IT. Just relax and get a good nap and then have a lovely evening.
Have a wonderful day everybody and be sure you give a warm thanks for everything at your THANKSGIVING dinner.
