Got the "subtract one" theme right away. Too bad it doesn't work with pounds. No Wite-Out was needed this morning, but I did stare at NEWS MILE for a bit. Thanx, Joseph, and for pulling holiday duty, Steve.
GET CASH: The ATM is just about my only contact with my online bank. Can't make an ATM deposit, though -- the only drawback I've found.
NOAM: Dw has a great nephew named Noam. (I call him Chomsky.) He's due to get a new brother in a few weeks.
SSNS: I finished my study prep a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday I completed the IRS certification exams for next year's tax season. This may be my last year. We'll no longer be allowed to log into the tax software from home. When the IRS "bounces" a return, we'll have to return to the tax site to research/correct the problem. Bummer. One of my sites is 17 miles away.
I'd like to take a moment to wish all of our little community a memorable Thanksgiving, also to those of you who lurk, but don't chime in. No turkey chez d-o. Dw is having vegetarian lasagna, and I'll warm up some leftover meatloaf. Not fancy, but also not Pepto-inducing.

I crawled out of retirement again this week to do a little carpentry finishing . Install doors casings and window trim. I found my knees telling me that I was a septuagenarian no doubt. Alphabet run was short when I got to B - BLUE! Love Velvet Underground, but don't know the names of any of that talented group. No way of salvaging the second (hi OKL). Erased fruit for TEAMS.
"Went for the worm" reminded me of my old tequila-drinking days.
Had to wait for "avocados or plums" because there wasn't enough room for "colour", eh?
Long day yesterday. Left home at 6:45 for DWs Mohs surgery for a basal cell cancer on her nose. Was disappointed when we came in and no one yelled "welcome to Mohs". Then went across town for plastic surgery. That was scheduled for noon, but didn't get started until 2:00. Stopped by the drug store for some good pain killers, then got home just before 5.
I'm the chef for the day. I got a prepackaged dinner from the grocery store. Pre-cooked turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, gravy and cranberry sauce. I was surprised with the instructions on the "fully cooked" turkey: Use meat thermometer to make sure the turkey reaches a safe temperature.

DW spent the day yesterday baking cookies and pies, and I stayed out of her way. Except for a few unnecessary trips that took me past the kitchen so I could grab some cookies cooling on the wire rack. By the time supper came, I'd sort of damped my appetite, but managed to have second helpings while telling her how good it was. And it was.
As WikWak noted, the winds calmed down overnight. We had sustained high winds all day yesterday. Had to go pick up the garbage bin and recycle bin two times before the trucks finally rolled through to collect the contents. The big garbage bin was heavy. It was half filled with 2x4's and other garbage from cleaning up the shed last week. You know the winds are strong when they can topple a garbage bin with probably 40 or 50 pounds of weight.
I'm not in to watching parades, and I'd usually have to find something to do while waiting on the traditional feast. Not today. Going to get out there and start cleaning the yard of all the leaves and branches that blew in from Iowa. Then have to reconnect all the gutter extensions...
Oh, and the puzzle was fine. Got the gist of it with the first theme answer and pretty much sailed through it with little hesitation. I remembered B-BOY from the last time we had it, but it took a moment to recall it. TIGer went in before the perps forced TIGRE.

This was the second Thursday in a row that had a very obvious theme and, therefore, provided a quick and easy solve. (I prefer more challenging puzzles, especially later in the week.) However, easy though it was, the B Boy/BIV crossing gave me a DNF. I never heard of B Boy and I never learned that mnenomic, so I was stymied, but good. Other troublesome but solvable spots were: Eliza, Monk, and Nico, but no W/Os. I liked the NEA/NES duo and the Bang from the TNT!

BIV was one of my gimme answers. I grew up knowing ROYGBIV. Piece of cake.
TIGRE threw me off. I had TIGER first.
Theme was fine. Caught it after OCEANS SEVEN.
ROSA helped with the NW corner.
MAORI was easy. We get that word now and then from a New Zealand clue.
NICO was unknown. Was thinking of the Velvet Fog Mel Torme. Oh well.
Lots to do today. The wife is cooking. Our daughter, her boy friend, their friends and their friends' child, are coming over tonight for Thanksgiving dinner. I am not cooking, but doing everything else.

Almost a perfect no errors puzzle with a fun theme but my 37 across 34 down WAG was a bust so DNF.

Had the pleasure of 3 days in Prague in July at the end of a Danube River cruise that started in Budapest. Anyone thinking of taking this cruise beware. The Danube water levels get lower each year. River boats can't sail. We had some close calls till we got far enough upstream.

BIV...I read somewhere recently that the INDIGO was never and isn’t a distinct color, more like ROY G BV now.
At any rate, it would have been helpful if the clue had actually been “end of the rainbow mnemonic”.
A tough natick with the BBOY cross.

The big storm in CA is due to blow into AZ with snow in the mountains, and much needed rain here in the desert.
Since we are all talking about food and cooking, I was wondering if any of you use a Instant Pot. I use my old crock pot weekly, but I have friends that say the Instant Pot is so much better. With all the big sales I thought I might buy one.

AnonPVX, a few weeks back I expressed the opinion that Indigo was not a distinct color, just bluish-purple, halfway between those two colors. I don't claim to be an expert though.

Don't know if that will work (and your browser commands may vary), but it seems worth a try if only to learn how to handle this in the future.

I technically cheated. I had a book "Anarchism" with an introduction by Chomsky. The theme: the human desire to be free of overweening autocracy (and the various directions taken in the last 150 years).
Despite being Espanol illiterate I got (no)MAS

Thought I'd stop by to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving (apologies to Native Americans).
I learnt ROYGBIV at High School (in England), and 50 years have not erased it from my frontal RAM. Indeed, it was the V that gave me the theme as I saw ANGRY MEN and that ELEVEN would fit nicely in front.
The long theme entries made this into a very "modular" puzzle with distinct blocks. Fortunately at least one clue in each block was a gimme and I bootstrapped from there, with no serious Naticks.
FYI, the "novel" OBOE clue was used almost verbatim in the NYTXW puzzle a few days ago.
OWEN, I amazed that you are still writing poetry after all these years. And I see distinct signs of improvement....

Not sure what you are trying to link,
but if it is a pic from your computer it will not work.
All links have to be freely available on the Internet...
One way around this is to use internet storage sights,
Facebook is one,
Shutterfly for photos is another,
there are many.
The catch is you must use the largest, closest, & deepest into the guts of the internet
picture for it to work.
To explain, if you use Facebook,
just linking the pic will bring the person trying to see it
to your Facebook account, where they will be blocked for not
having your password.
However...
If you can click on a larger (or largest) version of the pic you want to link,
it will bypass all the Facebook Gobbletygook (Thanksgiving term...)
and the person will just see a picture file and not any part of your
Facebook account.
This will work,

I have no problem remembering the ROY G. BIV mnemonic.
Congratulations are not really appropriate on my new milestone to senescence. My first wife took our 2 small children across country with her when we split, so I've only seen them 3 times since the oldest was a toddler, only met my grandchildren once, and likely will never see my great-grandson except in Internet photos.
Nice Cuppa, how grand to see you back! We've wondered what happened to you, and your name occasionally comes up! Do pop in once in a while! And thanks for the compliment on my poetry. I think I'm getting a bit stale, but occasional flashes of brilliance still break thru, despite my efforts. Erato and Thalia have been at this for like 25 centuries, so it takes some time to really burn out!
I do hope you've also seen my longer-form poetry over at Jumble Hints. It's faring much better than the cryptic clues bog we tried to start a few years back!
