I didn’t get the gimmick until the reveal- but how appropriate for Super Bowl Sunday (Go Chiefs!). In spite of several proper names that were unknown to me, I managed to FIR, so I’m happy.

FIR very quickly for a Sunday. I only really stumbled around DOUBLEO_ (my American sports knowledge is next to nothing) but I just had to look again at the themers I had to see the repeated OT.
I managed to FIR today, noticing all the O's but not the DOUBLE OT. The perps took care of the numerous unknowns, TESSARA, ROTI, HECATE, DOROTHEA, JAMIE (male or female?),IMAM, SCRIM, TUMBLR, NOOM, ELISE, OR DOC, NONA, RHYS
My 'Cheap Digs' were RAT TRAPS before the perps made them POT SHOTS.
Bath mats were NON-SKID until NON-SLIP.
SCENE became the unknown SCRIM.
OR DOC- I know a few ER doctors but have never heard the term OR doctor.
E-BOY- only learned it from last week's puzzle. C.C., your E-BOY and E-GIRL remind me of the line in Rick James' song "Super Freak"- "the kind you don't take home to mother".
Super Bowl tonight. Overhyped and the bookies will make a bundle, as they take a cut whether they win or lose. Moi? Never bet a nickel on any sporting event and only bought a lottery ticket ONCE, when it was over a billion.

I glanced at the title but apparently it didn’t register because I had no idea what was going on, despite noticing the abundance of O s and T s, therefore, the reveal was a big surprise and a timely one, to boot. The themers were all solid, in-the-language phrases and Football Mascot was a nice touch, even though Staley Da Bear was a total unknown! There were the usual Sunday-grid pesky unknown proper names, to wit, Baja, NOOM, Elise, Hecate, Iman, Dorothea, and Nona, as clued. I believe my only w/os were Creed/Motto and Ortho/OR Doc. I must say, though, I have never been to a wedding that featured a Photo Booth. As CC mentioned, there were some clever clues and surprisingly, for a Sunday grid, there was not the usual barrage of three letter words.

Yet another one letter fail. I know his name is SHEL, but I had SHEa for some reason.
Thought about the title "Ten Minutes to Win It" before starting the solve, and saw the OT's pretty quickly. Ten minutes is the standard overtime period in regular season NFL contests. It's five minutes in NBA basketball. So DOUBLE OT would be twenty minutes to win it in pro football, and ten minutes in pro basketball. I like the title either way.
I enjoyed watching JAMIE Oliver on "The Naked Chef" because I liked learning some of his techniques and learning about dishes I'd heard of but never tried. The other reason was that he made recipes in his kitchen, and it wasn't in a production studio or in one of the over the top kitchens found in many homes of the superstar chefs.
I got what I believe to be a spam email yesterday encouraging me to sign up for NOOM. Would have had to enter my credit card info to get the free trial, but was also assured that I wouldn't be charged if I cancelled before the free trial period ended. It came from a top level domain in India. Even if it wasn't a phishing email, I would stay away from NOOM. They are criticized for shady billing practices and auto renewals when consumers try to get out, and have had various lawsuits filed against them for their dubious business practices.
I explored C.C.'s link back to Elizabeth Gorski's August 5th 2012 "Double Overtime" puzzle. I am amazed that she recalled it from over ten years ago. Then I read the comments. That one took me 1 hour and 23 minutes. I posted a comment that day as XVI TP'er (Sixteenth Time Poster). Two weeks earlier I was STP for sixth time poster. It's the one where I admitted that I had become hooked on crossword puzzles.. I was a relative newbie in solving crosswords back then. Soon thereafter Desper-otto asked me to go blue. I think he sensed I suffered from an identity crisis.
Irish Miss, I'm hoping for an Eagles win because I like their team defense, but I won't be disappointed either way as long as it is a good game.
FIW thanks to the crossing of LAKOTA and ALE TAP. Dakota and ade looked OK, but if I had thought more about it, ALE might have struck me as a more likely answer. Thanks, Amie, for a timely Sunday puzzle that I enjoyed.
I too noticed the DOUBLE Os first but after the reveal was partly filled, saw there weren't enough themers with them. HECATE was lurking in my head to confirm we should look for OT. The clue said eight long puzzle answers but I only saw seven. I decided POTSHOTS was included in spite of its length. Anyone else wonder about this?

I had OVERTIME instead of DOUBLEOT as the reveal, and was convinced it was correct, even though I couldn’t figure out the short down answers. I kept thinking EDDA, SOBS, TLC, EON make sense, but they didn’t fit. Bugs me when I make an error like that. Too stubborn I guess.
I like the Eagles today, think they are the more complete team with a great offensive line.
I was doing just great, I figured out the theme early on, I loved all the clues, then I hit a snag with the crossing of TUMBLR, JAMIE, SHEL, and JOHN (of all names). I looked one up, then letters fell into place, so I guess I FIR.
We have 3 missing Gs today.
I liked Gilda RADNER back when I watched SNL. She died young.

Found a book titled “Red Scarf Girl”, written by one Ji-Li Jiang, about growing up in China during the Cultural Revolution, was wondering if your experiences were similar, as you mentioned a lost childhood.

NY Giants fans, years before Buffalo even had a team, I feel no affinity for the Bills, but I would root for them if they were playing today. I’m only partial to the Chiefs because I like Patrick Mahomes. But, as I said, I just hope it’s an exciting, well-played game for all the faithful and devoted fans.

Dash T, I haven't heard that song in a very long time, but it is apt ! Yes, did most chores yesterday, and this year I'm staying out of the kitchen so I can enjoy the game.* What's on the menu today ? Friday, I got a big bucket of chicken wings that will heat up nicely in the air fryer. Then I made 4 chicken breasts in the oven for fajitas Friday night, and possibly quesadillas today. Plus she likes slices of chicken in her salad, so she could fend for herself. But then, unbeknownst to me, she decided to stop at Costco on the way home and while there, decided to pick up a whole spit roasted chicken ! So we're having chicken.
I hosted my last SuperBowl party for XLV - Steelers v Packers in 2011. I missed most of the game because I was constantly baking and serving all the different finger foods I had prepped the day before. I severely underestimated the time impact. Sadly, the Steelers lost, and I decided then that was going to be the last one I would host. Well, there was another major reason that I decided to not host again, but I won't go into that here.

A-T@1:15. I taught at the same uni long enough that one of my stellar undergrads went off, got a PhD and came back and eventually became my department head. That’s when I knew it was time to retire. 😜
I was doing fine until I got to Pismo Beach. Finished the other assorted holes, then went back to Pismo. Still couldn't progress. Gave up and googled, replaced bligh with PELEG, and the rest fell. (No one has ever called me Captain PELIG.) Erased epochs for BIOMES,naan for ROTI, boob for BOOR, and back for HOME.
A buddy once showed me a web site with a section dedicated to people (mainly women) being naughty in wedding PHOTO BOOTHs. Like everything else involving a camera, never think that it (especially your privates) will remain private.
In the NFL, there can't be double OTs in the regular season. The single OT is 10 minutes long, and the game is a tie if not won outright. In the playoffs, each OT period is 15 minutes, and the game doesn't end until there is a winner. So in the NFL, there can't be a double OT that is "ten minutes to win it." Amy and Patti would have been better served by leaving "gridiron" out of the clue, or to use (W)NBA, where double overtime is indeed ten minutes.

Unfortunately, like others he died with dementia.

This was a fun, steady Sunday solve- just moving down the fill for me. Needed the reveal to explain all the O's and T's.
Fun gimmes - Staley Da Bear - didn't know Staley - but from back in the Ditka ERA the football team is always called Da Bears' - if you're from the Chicagoland area. And they had some memorable skits on SNL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBnnon_iZOM
We had some neighbors when we lived in WI who were from Chi-town with the last name Baer - their personalized WI license plate was Da Baers
I thought it was BAJA Fresh was designated as Tex-Mex - since it started in California and the Baja peninsula is just south of California.

Well getting close to kick off for this born & bred Chiefs fan (though the 10 years in WI have a little Packers fan as well inside- kept hoping they would meet in a SB)
We used to host the entire youth group and friends for the SB - but tonight will be much quieter.

Well, as soon as I saw OBSESSED and POTSHOTS, I worried that we weren't going to get any cheerful ROOTIN and TOOTIN in this puzzle. I almost wanted to take the advice to LETS NOT GO THERE because if people CRASHED and we heard their SOBS and their saying IT HURTS, this was going to be a sad Sunday.
But, hey, starting out with INK there had to be some writing or drawing or art somewhere--although it wasn't until the end that we got an ART SCENE. Sure, some of the art might be simple, like things made with knitting NEEDLEs, but if someone can EMBOSS an outstanding design and paint things in OCHRE--that could be pretty good. So let stop by the PHOTO BOOTH and look at those pictures, and then enjoy what little we can here.

Very clever theme, this one! “Stretch often named for a leader” had my brain stuck in exercises before I unhooked it and figured it was about time. Then got hung on “Homecoming cry” thinking football (it IS Super Bowl Sunday, after all!) until preps gave me the facepalm moment 😆ALETAP felt a wee bit wanky, though. Had nooo clue HECATE had multiple faces; all I could think of was HYDRA (my Greek Mythology knowledge is non-existent…). And only ATT saved me for the mosaic piece — we always called ‘em tiles. Managed to FIR although I am in awe of all you folks here that can rip these out in under an hour…
