After I got the reveal, I went back and saw all the “body” stuff. This puzzle was a typical Tuesday level puzzle, i.e., not very difficult at all. FIR, so I’m happy.
And, by the way, welcome back, Hahtoolah!

As usual the DNKs consisted of mostly names, TESS, SAL, LEROY, ALIA, SIMU, TOTORO, plus the Hawaiian word OHANA. Somehow it all perped for a FIR in 9:45. I enjoy this type of theme but definitely needed the reveal to see it. Thank you Rebecca and Don for your creation.

Nice to have you back Hahtoolah! Cool photo from Iceland too. Tony did a fine job in your absence!

FIR, getting my WAG @ OHANA x ATHOS. My eraser got a well-deserved day off today.

I wanted the alternative to wax to be LASER, but it wouldn't fit. I'll have to remember NAIR the next time I need my bikini trim.

MISERY loves company? I always it was "Missouri loves company."

I hadn't heard of BODY TALK, 'cept of course in Olivia Newton-John's huge hit Physical:
Let's get physical, physical
I wanna get physical
Let's get into physical
Let me hear your body talk, your body talk
Let me hear your body talk

Where the hell was BODY BUTTER when I was young and single?

Happy birthday to Bayou Tony. Reminds me of that old sitcom with Toody and Muldoon, Tee 54, Where Are You.

Thanks to Beth and Rebecca for the fun Tuesday puzzle, and to Ha2la for another fun review. Welcome back. I think you have a typo for ONO's DOB. Pro'ly should be 1933, not 1993. Give you a few days off and you hands have to be retrained.

Took 5:01 today for me to play paintball.
(Body paint & body ball ?)

As usual, I didn't know today's actress (Alia), today's writer (Tess), or today's French lessons (sel and une). I also didn't know today's actor (Simu) or his show, nor the Hawaiian word.

Biological clock? Yes, but I've not heard of "body clock."

Thanks for the fun recap.

Good Morning:

I thought this had more crunch than usual for a Tuesday due to several unknowns: Tess, Ohana, Totoro, and Simu, but the perps were fair, so all is well. The theme was certainly not evident until the reveal, always a plus factor in my book. The fill was fresh and lively, especially In A Few, Hot Tip, OK By Me, and the rarely seen, Señorita.

Thanks, Beth and Rebecca, and thanks, Hahtoolah, for the detailed and descriptive review and commentary. As usual, you provided many chuckles with the cute comics, particularly the Sheep-PR, the Canine "Investment Consultant, and the Bereft Birthday Twin. Any reference to one of my favorite shows, All Creatures Great and Small, gives me the warm fuzzies! Glad to have you back!

Happy Birthday, dear Tony. 🎂🎊🎈🎉 I hope your day is as special as you are! Thanks for pinch hitting for Hahtoolah and anyone else who needs a helping hand!

Have a great day.

Good Morning, Crossword friends.

Wishing Tony a Happy Birthday. I hope he, and our other Houston contingent, are safe, sound and can find relief from the heat. Much of the area is without power from Beryl.

A mostly fun and easy Tuesday and I too welcome Susan back to her blogging duties. The comments have already mentioned all my thoughts, though I did know SIMU from KIM'S CONVENIENCE . I also must add that CHEVY CHASE was one of the original cast members. https://www.nbc.com/nbc-insider/first-saturday-night-live-cast-snl-season-1#:~:text=For%20the%20first%20three%20seasons%2C%20the%20original%20cast,sports%20announcer%20Cosell%E2%80%99s%20stab%20at%20the%20comedy%20format.

This is my favorite types of themes - but one I usually don't get until the reveal

"My neighbor TOTORO" produced by Studio Ghibli and directed by Hayao Miyazaki is one of the first films in Anime (Japanese animated film) to be popular worldwide and to have the genre go mainstream. It is on many lists of the top films of all time. I knew it more from Sporcle quizzes - I think you can find the English language Dub on Amazon Prime and Apple+
He is sorta like the Walt Disney of Japan

Thanks Hatoolah for the fun blog and Rebecca & Don for the puzzle
Happy birthday Tony - hope you and your family are well after Beryl - my friends who live there don't have power (using a generator) but are otherwise well

FIR. There were several unknowns for me, ohana, Simu, and Totoro, for example but we'll placed perps helped a lot.
For what should be an easy Tuesday puzzle, I thought it had a bit of crunch to it.
I somewhat get the theme, but some of the body items seem to be a bit of a stretch to me. Body talk? Body butter?
But it's done so there's that.

Big Easy said...

Definitely a Tuesday level puzzle this morning. Jut too many A&E unknowns filled by perps. TOTORO, TESS, SIMU, ALIA, LEROY, PBS

LORES- filled by perps and I didn't know either until I realized it was LO RES.

BOCY DOUBLE? Never noticed.

Yes, the SNL cast picture includes Bill Murray, who replaced Chevy Chase in Season 2 when he left the show to get his movie career going. This SNL cast was for Seasons 2 through 5.

Almost as EZ as yesterday although I perp-waited on PATS not taps and BOOST needed a perp-aid boost as well

Theme: I get BODY PILLOW and DOUBLE TALK, DOUBLE BOARD (an MD with two specialties is “double boarded”) but BODY CLOCK? (Internal body clock maybe?) DOUBLE BUTTER? I’m cornfused 🥹

Are all Muskrats OMANI? NYS is east of the Rockies, we have both Dreyers and Edys ice cream. BTW the most majestic mountain range in the US and that’s the name they came up with “The Rocky Mountains”? Can you say “redundant and unimaginative”

A “whack”’is a bit more forceful than a SWAT (one LUMP or two 😮)

Did not know SIMU “Liu” (it’s usually “Lucy”). Ah LO-RES!

Started to fill waterboard but that’s reserved for extracting “good intel” 😳… liked the ION clue but more of a Saturday level brain twister. A “carabiner” ….what?

Was looking for a specific AP CLASS

Spanish version of “A Boy Named Sue” …. SEÑOR RITA
Best Brit mother….OPTIMUM
What the Hummel said to the customer who broke it: “OKBYME”
Genre of small computer programs…. APCLASS

Happy birthday 🎁 Anon Tony
Great toons as usual H2LH

Fun puzzle, Beth and Rebecca. Delightful, blog, Susan. Welcome home.
Happy birthday, Tony. Hope you have a great day. Thanks for all you do for the corner. I like reading your posts daily and hearing about your family.
One bad cell. Tsk, tsk. I misspelled Mamba with an O at the end and wondered why NOIR made no sense.
Body butter is great for dry skin. I like shea butter for the roughest patches.
Some people's body clocks have trouble with daylight saving time. Not I.
Years ago when I was studying Japanese I watched "My Neighbor, Totoro" in Japanese with my half Japanese grandson. With my rudimentary language skills, great animations and easy plot I could follow it. Not today. I was too old when I studied Japanese. Funny, I remember more of my college German. Some of Miyazaki's movies have been translated to English.
LORES? I left it in, Thanks for parsing it, Susan
I love petunias. I planted some from our farm market. They must have had insect eggs on them. The plants failed and the bugs survived in the ground to return every year. I suppose hanging baskets would be a solution.
I am floor leader here. We arranged a catered picnic this noon with 12 of our neighbors. What a fun, caring group! I am very happy here at the Oaks.

Good Morning! I wasn’t in the best of moods after this puzzle.
The theme IMHO was a stretch of phrases NES (no-one ever says) body talk, body board. I’ll go with body language and boogie board. Body butter and body work are suspect, but I’ll give them that. More likely one would go to a body shop, but who says to have body work done?
Perps for TESS, SAL, ALIA, (hand up) LORES SIMU, TOTORO.
Big dilemma: was it “plot” crossing Ottowa and the unknown ohata or “plan” crossing Ottawa and the unknown ohana. Sorry CE, I was back & forth, tried both, but guessed wrong.
Happy BD, Dash-T. Hope you & yours are well. Thoughts are with you after the storm.
Thanks, Hah2lah, and welcome back. Loved your photo in Iceland.

Hola!

We had Friday on Tuesday! At least that's what it felt like at times with TOTORO, SIMU and OHANA. Those are all unfamiliar to me but I see that others knew them. DOUBLE TALK made the most sense to me. And I've seen YOLO enough now that I can use it in the puzzle without cringing. BODY BUTTER is something I use. Here in the SW desert our skin dries out and needs something like that.

Welcome back, Susan; you were missed but Tony did a fine job in your absence.

I hope our Texas contingent is safe following Beryl's landing.

Have a great day, everyone!

Musings
-BODY CLOCK: I have not used an alarm clock for decades
-Lily so trusts us, she will tolerate, even demand, PETS anywhere
-Some flooded acres around here have come back and will do okay when REAPED/picked/combined, etc. The center PIVOTS have not had to turn yet.
-Thomas Hardy’s cwd staple TESS yields to a uber obscure (esp. for a Tuesday) one. At least SIMU and TOTORO have no alternative.
-Using the FOB to start my car from inside school on a very hot/cold day is great
-Colleges have not completely abandoned SAT and ACT scores
-Seeing my first computer image (Oregon Trail?), even though it was really LO RES, was amazing
-Disney’s “ELEVATOR” in the Tower Of Terror” gives you two seconds of being weightless
-Buon compleanno, Paisano!

Excellent explanations, Hahtoolah! Welcome back! I FIR this morning with only 4 personal names I Did Not Know.

The only BODY business that strikes me as odd is BODY TALK (as opposed to BODY language), but since other players object to other BODY expressions that seem fine to me, I'll assume this is a lack of experience on my part. The puzzle was well done.

Thanks to Beth and Rebecca for the fun, and to Hahtoolah for even more! Hope -T has a happy birthday.

Jinx in Norfolk said...

PVX, yeah it was Car 54, where are you, but it's not funny that way. (Maybe it's not too funny the way I twisted it, either. But I thanked the right pair of constructors, so I got that goin' for me.)

Terrific Tuesday. Thanks for the fun, Beth and Rebecca, and Hahtoolah (welcome back).
I FIRed in good time, and saw the BODY DOUBLEs..

One inkblot as HOTTIe changed to HOT TIP.
Thanks for explaining LO RES. Hand up for not parsing.
Perps were fair.

I’ll take a CSO for OTTAWA and SIMU. I have mentioned him before - you may know him from Kim’s Convenience (hi Lemonade). He also starred in Marvel movie as Shang-Chi.
Rose- maybe this info will help you to remember the spelling of Ottawa. You can add it to other languages that we need for CWs. LOL, “Originally called Bytown, it became Ottawa in 1855, a name believed to come from an Algonquin-speaking First Nation, likely from the word “adawe,” meaning to trade. It’s apt because long before the Ottawa River teamed with the timber trade, it was a transportation and trade route for First Nations.”

Happy Birthday AnonT.
Wishing you all a good evening.
