ROAMS : Counted ten deer just milling about in our backyard yesterday. Most of the wooded lots in our area have been cleared for construction, but there's still a 5-acre reserve behind our house. The deer have moved in.
Where did the summer go? Last weekend was Tax-Free Weekend, and We had to dodge school buses yesterday on our 3-mile march through the 'hood.
FIR in 15, which is a fair Tuesday time for me. I liked this CW, very punny. Only W/O was due to carelessly writing CAR in 63D instead of 62D. Grrr! LOTSA names in this CW, most of which I DNK, but they perped in O.K. so I managed. Thanx MS for the quite enjoyable Tuesday CW. And Hahtoolah you truly outdid yourself today with the cartoons! I especially liked “Hole Foods”, but most were good ones. Thanx for the smiles, and the nice write-up.

One of my favorite restaurants serves soft drinks and teas in MASON jars. Showoffs. When I grew up we could only afford reused jelly jars. (We reused the tins from frozen pot pies and TV dinners, too.)

I FIR but never noticed the OVEN connection. I'd seen the word CHALLAH before, filled it by perps, but had no idea how it pronounced or what it was. Live and learn.
OLSEN, T-PAIN, ANA, & NED were other unknowns filled by perps. All characters I know from "The Simpsons" show were learned from these puzzles. Rod and Todd are new ones.

I spent yesterday teaching a 17-year old how to parallel park on a street. When I covered up the back-up screen and told him to use his mirrors and turn his head around he didn't know what to do. I explained he absolutely has to know where both the front and back of his Jeep is. No guessing, just know it. The tv screen in the car is just one of the things you use, not the only thing.
Loved the theme. I saw the connections and the puns, but the cute reveal surprised me.
I left one cell blank. TPAI- ??? I made an ABC run and rejected the N. "NOONES" going down didn't parse for me. Otherwise it was a quick and easy solve.

Bundt cakes in the traditional form were very popular in the 1960's. I learned today that that they can take other shapes which I have never seen. I remember the many house parties we had in those days showing off our cooking and baking skills. We all wore "dress up" attire. It was so much fun.

The design of the Atari logo always reminds me of Wilson Hall at Fermilab. Perhaps that's where the graphics designer for the Atari logo got the idea ?
D-O, you know that where the deer consolidate, the hunters will follow. I'd make sure that your adjacent wooded lot is well marked with No Hunting / No Trespassing signs. And ditto for the owners of the lots comprising the 5 acres - at least until they sell out to the developers. I'd get to know the local game warden, and put the telephone number on speed dial.
Maybe I've been watching too many episodes of Lone Star Law. It's the Animal Planet series that was a follow on to North Woods Law, about game and wildlife officers in Maine. North Woods Law then moved to the conservation activities in New Hampshire. I think I like Lone Star Law better because it is so difficult to understand the accents of the people in North Woods Law. Thank goodness for subtitles.

Enjoyed the PUN IN THE OVEN theme. I wondered how many people would know CHALLAH. Sometimes the Jewish Community Center leaves a basket of CHALLAH on our doorstep. It is tasty, but I feel others are more deserving.

This HELICOPTER deposited us on Mendenhall Glacier then flew away.

Yes, the body sure dominated the theme of this puzzle. I just hope that no one had all that -PAIN and all that ACHE in their TORSO or their ARMS or aFOOT.

I bet our HERO in this puzzle is a TYPE B who makes fans ADORE him and ROAR when they see him playing a LEAD in a movie. He often just FLOORs LOTSA viewers.

Hello Cornerites! I'm home from my cycling trip in the Canadian Rockies. It was breathtaking (both visually & altitude-wise)! I enjoyed every minute!
Even though I was out of practice, I managed to FIR. The puns were fun(s)! Wonderful to come back to Hahtoolah's well-chosen comics. My favorite was "lotsa witnesses". Also, thank you for revealing "Type B". I filled it with the perps but still couldn't see it.

I'll take a CSO for SOURDOUGH. I've been baking with sourdough for 36 years. Bill Black (the cowboss on Oregon's MC Ranch at the time) taught me the basics and now I completely skip the bread aisle. I've had to make new starters over the years because of moving over oceans. My current starter is 8 years old.
sumdaze, I recently bought an E-bike and have started to get back into riding after a twenty-five year lay off. Even with the motorized assist I find the steep hills difficult. Fortunately, the bike has a "walk mode".

TTP @2:47 PM I cannot tell a lie, it was I who mentioned EMMA. I've encountered her in Blogs at least twice and found that she is not only talented and beautiful, but down to earth as well. She has also checked the O box on her journey toward an EGOT.

Vid, we have all kinds of tort abuse. People play the tort lottery all the time. Get stood up on a second date? Sue. Order coffee and burn yourself because of your clumsiness? Sue the store who sold the coffee. California (and maybe other states) ups the ante in the game with a policy nicknamed "deep pockets". Say a drunk hits you on a mountain road and is found by a jury to be 99% at fault. The other 1% fault was found to be with the contractor who painted the center line, which was 2" off center. The jury awards $990,000 from the drunk and $10,000 from the contractor. The drunk only has insurance to cover $100,000, and has no other assets. In California, the drunk's insurance company covers $100,000, and the contractor is stuck for the other $900,000.

Re: haiku
I'll occasionally write one, but they're rare only compared to all the other verse forms I use.
Senior year of high school. I'm in my religious-fanatic phase, transitioning from Billy Graham to Mormonism. English subject is haiku. I insist that haiku is not poetry in the English sense. No rhyme, no rhythm. The 17-syllable limit is arbitrary, because it's designed for Japanese which has a different concept of syllable than English. Teach gives assignment of writing 3 or more haiku of our own. I turn in a paper of a dozen or so 17-syllable verses -- from Proverbs and Song of Solomon, in haiku 5-7-5 format. Actually, I found they made excellent haiku, even fitting the thematic content. I don't know what Teach thought of it, but I passed the class. And afterwards I felt more attuned with the form. How I wish I still had that paper!
Messed this one up in a couple of places, for an FIW. Terrible proofreading, with a little bit of stubbornness tossed into the mix.
