The Saga of the suppository:
On Sat 11-21 Carol asked if I would loan her a suppository. I did but quickly lost interest. She launched the Argo with immediate severe cramps. She wished she had Argo not. Sun. A.M. she was so Argonized that Am Bulance took her to a dry Doc. They tested, and she did not have COVID-19. What they did not do for a long time was address the cramping.
While X-Raying her gut they included the lower portion of her lungs. A full chest X-Ray caused them to treat her for P-Newmonia with I-V anti things. Eventually they decided that other indicators did not support P-nU.
Carol likes to tell stories. She inhales through her ears so she can speak continuously. Not so in the Hosp. She would say a phrase and have to cringe with a cramp. This cycle happened every minute. On Wed. 11-25 she finally was given a med to ease the cramping. I could tell it was working when she had spoken for 10 min and FIR.
Her Odessey: a long wandering or voyage usually marked by many changes of fortune, started in the ER, then to room 1, room 2 with a heart monitor, and room 3.
She was functional BC - before cramps, but the powerful powers want to send her to Rehab. She has been out of here for only 4 days which seem like 6 months, and wants to come home. Please pray that she is discharged to home.
The ER Doc claimed that her gut problem was caused by the Supposition so I LIU. It seems that -Dulcolax- had this warning.
Older adults should not use rectal Dulcolax without a doctor's advice.
May my discovery prevent you from emulating her.

Good Morning and Happy Thanksgiving all. Since I have experience in restaurant ownership years ago, I sort of self appoint myself to prepare the turkey. I guess I am the chef and C.C. is the brains. I wrestled with our 16 pounder graciously given to us by Graybar and loaded the stuffing and hoisted it into our roasting pan. Then I slid it into the oven. Seemed very daunting at first, but then THIRD AMENDMENT got me going. When I saw the scrambled DREAMS going on it helped narrow the choices in the circled cells. Only wite-out was I had 'touchy' before TICKLY. Surprised myself and FIR without help.
HATS - Our officer's HAT is commonly called a 'combination cap' in catalogues and uniform prescriptions. We also wore 'fore-and-aft' caps at sea (more secure against the wind). These were refered to as garrison caps or pisscutters.

Starting a puzzle with a Greek letter crossing a not well known Malaysian name isn't the best approach in my view, which resulted in having to run some of the English alphabet. Took a little less than 9 minutes. Was unfamiliar with Segal, gossamer, and tickly (in that context).

I'd be DREAMing if I thought I FIR. I was DOA at 1A & !D. I know alpha, beta, & Omega but not the order of the rest of the Greek letter order. Only know the ones used in math & physics. Antepenultimate- could be any letter before what comes before what came before omega. Then there was the unknown CHIENG. I really didn't help myself by starting with FEMURS instead of HUMERI and really shot myself in the foot with AM-FM (radio?) instead of AM-PM. Duh!
Then there was the SE. I couldn't get TOUCHY out of my head but knew TOLD was the correct perp. Maslow's Hierarchy- had no idea what that was. TICKLY wouldn't come to mind so I just quit. OPEN & SHUT it wasn't today.
But the DREAM SEQUANCE was an easy spot with the circles. ACID DROP, AMA, GOSSAMER, ARI- unknowns filled y perps. What does "AMA" mean or stand for?

Is it wrong to have a slice of pumpkin pie with the first cup of coffee on Thanksgiving morning ?
After cutting into that first pie, I looked in the overloaded utensil drawer for one of those pie server spatulas. I noticed that there were at least three of them in there. Made a mental note that to purge some of the extra utensils in that drawer. Got my piece of pie, put the pie server in the sink and sat down with my coffee.
What a great combination ! Coffee and pumpkin pie. It was so good I decided to have another piece, but I'd already put the spatula in the sink. It was at that point that I realized why there are multiple pie servers in that drawer. D'OH !

My paper has a mega 700+ clue crossword today, which they’ve done the last few years. Interesting, but too much for me. Would take me until Christmas to finish. I saw the Dream scramble early on but the reveal was an Aha surprise. I thought some of the cluing was unnecessarily difficult, even for a Friday, e.g, the clue for a simple word like Need. I never heard of Acid Drop, In Run, Ari, Ron, Rey, and Chieng, so, many perps were needed for the solve; fortunately, the crosses were fair but a couple of wags were needed for Chi and In Run.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! It's going to be a rather quiet one here at the Bluehen Ponderosa. Just the old head of the pride and the three young lions. And football, of course. I broke down a twenty-two pound bird yesterday. Eldest is in charge of roasting the breast, the youngest is making some fancy mashed potatoes from a recipe he found online, and middlest is in charge of veggies. Thanks to the two youngest being on the keto diet, no rolls, no stuffing, no dessert. Oh, well, if they lose some of their weight it's worth it. I froze the two thighs, and poached the rest with a mirepoix . We got a pint of turkey fat, a half gallon of rich stock, and picked off probably 6 cups of meat. We're going to be eating turkey for a while. Anybody know a good keto-friendly turkey casserole recipe? My usual leftover turkey recipes are decidedly NOT keto-friendly (but durned good). Oops. Said young lions are back from a hunting expedition. Cya!

I followed my DREAM but FIW with one bad cell: I had WiN for "bid the most" and didn't know that "biographer Chernow" was RON, but should have realized that was more likely than RiN. Like Irish Miss, I had a couple of WAGs in the northwest. I give thanks to Joe for the puzzle, Rich and Joyce for editing, Boomer for the roundup, and all Cornerites for the good company.
In my house, we spend a lot of time looking at birds through binoculars and cameras, but we don't eat them! We are looking forward to a vegan Field Roast, mushroom gravy, yams, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, salad, cranberries, rolls, and pie. My children and grandchildren, who are part of our pandemic bubble, will be here for a late lunch outdoors in the LA sunshine.
My turkey is now in the oven. We'll have a small family gathering, not the usual 30-4o of past times.
My daughter and my niece will bring the side dishes so all I have to do is cook the biscuits (Grands), make a salad and gravy. I'll have the first arrivals set the table. We'll eat at about 2:30.

A bit sticky for a Thursday I thought. Generally I pay no attention to circles, but today they were most helpful after getting dream sequence. Chieng and inrun were both wags. I think ticklish would have been more acceptable, but wouldn't fit so I gave in to tickly. In the end I had four wrong squares all in the center-east having insisted on mix before men. Close but no cigar today. Let's all give thanks today for the countless blessings we enjoy.

Many years ago now, I worked with a very bright young woman who purchased a newly built condominium early in the year. She subsequently decided to express her independence by hosting thanksgiving. She asked for recipes and advice and felt ready for the big day. Thanksgiving morning she got the turkey ready only to discover, after living in the condo for nearly a year at that point, that the kitchen didn't have an oven!

WOs were AbU, AMfM, and Pass/POOR. Before I saw the perps, I was thinking how clever to have PAST and Pass intersect! INRUN was a WAG as I didn't know CHIENG, obviously.
I suspected DREAM was involved in the theme but needed the reveal for the SEQUENCE part. Nice. My favorite fill was GINGERBREAD MEN. Yum! Enjoy your yummy feast today. Ours will arrive this afternoon.

When I was a small child, one of the nicknames that my father gave me was NANOOK of the North. Years later I was fortunate enough to see the film. It is good to see Nanook here.

As to why no oven, I can only guess. But clearly roasting or baking wasn't high on her list of priorities.

I saw the DREAM SEQUENCE early which helped fill the circles. But I arrived here to see that I FIWed. Hand up for Win instead of WON (it could have been present or past tense!) and not noticing the crossing Rin instead of RON.
I thought there might be a turkey theme today, but we had GINGERBREAD MEN!😀. Run, run, as fast as you can . . . .

14A W competitor - like several others I took the bait and initially penciled in GORE, but it didn’t perp so I erased it. It eventually perped to OMNI. I find that “W” is a holding company for hotels that appeal “hip” youngsters. I think ILIAC might have been better, but I guess it’s too long.
2D Upper arm bones. Sneaky (see 6D), because the upper arm only has one bone. But here it’s being as a collective noun. Strictly speaking the HUMERI are not “funny bones” The latter are not a bone per se, but rather the “olecronan nerve” protruding from the Ulna in the lower arm. Whenever it gets wacked it creates that electrifying feeling that you’ve been shocked. I owe this bit of trivia to Mr. Goedeke, my 8th grade science teacher.
5D Alarm clock toggle. Like many other retired people I don’t use an alarm clock, not that I don’t have a busy schedule. Instead I use my “much smarter than me” phone, which can trigger alarms at all different days of the week and times of the day. I just have make sure the “down” button is off on days when I don’t want to be rudely awakened (machines are not very empathetic).

30D DBA Where Anonymous T and I come from (and others on the Corner I’m sure) DBA means “Database Administrator”. In large IT shops there is usually a team of DBAs who install and patch DB software and act as internal consultants. Systems integrators and specialists who need databases to support software that they rely on, usually have to “roll their own” (see 19A). The latter can be really dangerous as I I know from personal experience!
