Ah, a beautiful fun Monday CW! Very nice, fun fill, nice theme, 15 minute FIR instead of a half hour struggle like Friday or Saturday. Thanx KC & ACM, well done. For some reason I repeatedly read “vaccination spot” as “vacation spot” until “ARM” perped in, then a more careful reading and the V-8 moment. Thanx Boomer, and I certainly more than agree with you about vaccinations. I have run out of patience with people who refuse vaccination. As long as there are unvaccinated people, this virus has a place to replicate, mutate, and get stronger. Each version is a little more resistant to vaccines. If it comes up with a version that is TOTALLY resistant, and it WILL, given enough time……. GET VACCINATED!!! This is a race!!

INVESTED: I agree with Boomer. There's a big difference between investing and playing the market. Had to sell a large chunk of my IRA last week to fulfill my RMD. I used it as an opportunity to rebalance our asset allocation.

PER: Gas prices around here haven't gotten much above $2.75. With a little shopping, you can find it for $2.60 or thereabouts.
MARIPOSA: One of our best vacations was a trip to Yosemite for my 50th birthday. (Wow, that was a long time ago!) Did you know that you can't buy underwear in the park? If you forgot to pack any, you'd wind up drying your sole pair on the lampshade in your cottage. Yup.
ALAMO: A group of Texans (including the business reporter for the Barnacle) wrote a book debunking many heroic aspects of the Alamo myth. In response, the state canceled a book-signing at the U of T campus. No myth-busting allowed on any property that receives state funding.
FIR, but erased GOOSEbumps and THou. Didn't get the theme 'til Boomer 'splained it.
I found out how corrupt show biz awards were when PIA Zadora's old fart husband bought a Golden Globe award for her.
I still have an all-in-one ink printer, but my other two use TONER. The lasers are my favorites, including my ancient HP LJ 1300. I use a small, inexpensive and lightweight laser printer in the RV.
Gas is a little under $3 PER gallon at Costco here.
I'm the only teetotaler among my Myrtle Beach golf trip buddies. I'm always the DD, regardless of whose car we take.
There is good news about omicron. It seems to be much less severe, and there are theories that evolution favors less severe but wider spreading variants. I'm betting that future variants will be about as deadly as seasonal flu (which is nothing to sneeze at), and we'll probably need a vaccination yearly. I hope that everyone who can do so get all their shots, including the ones for seasonal flu.

Boomer, as someone who has written many briefs addressed to many courts, I was of the Polonious from Hamlet shcool who said, BREVITY IS THE SOUL OF WIT . Likewise, Oliver Wendell Holmes said that he wrote his briefs standing up because tired knees encouraged brevity. One of my most recent successful briefs was three pages long.
Generally, if you file 75 pages it is because you really do not have much to say.

I am not going to mention that so called NFL team called the Vikings however CONGRATULATIONS to Minnesota Twins greats Tony Oliva and Jim Kaat for being elected to Baseball's Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. As a young kid working at Chalet Pizza in Hopkins, MN., I delivered many pizzas to the Kaat home in Minnetonka. Later when I hosted a baseball card trading show at Hopkins (MN) High School, fund raiser for the Debbie Burnikel Scholarship Foundation, Mr. Kaat was kind enough to appear for a couple of hours and sign autographs. Also Graybar hosted an event for customers at Target Field featuring Tony Oliva and Juan Berenger. C.C. constructed an Oliva Crossword and handed out copies, and I brought about 50 Oliva baseball cards and spread them around to various employees and friends and if they kept them, they now have an autographed card of a Hall of Famer.

Some serious senior slippage there at the end. But in the end, a FIR, and many thanks to KC and ACM for their clever and enjoyable puzzle.

Idiots took down a couple of great local pawn shops without explanation. The owners think it's because the pawn shops have weekly drawings for a free firearm. They are federally registered firearm dealers, and winners must be able to legally able to buy a firearm to collect their winnings. I would rather watch all the Limu the Emu commercials back-to-back than one of those phony-baloney interviews.

25D MARIPOSA. Also the name of a short lived Canadian (Hi Eh!) music festival (1961 - 1963). The festival had one of the first public performances by Canadian singer/songwriter JONI MITCHELL, my all time favorite. She was one of this years Kennedy Center Honorees for the Creative Arts.

Boomer, I had that written before your 6:42 AM comments, but then went back to sleep. Long time White Sox fans here are happy to see that Minnie Miñoso was finally inducted into the Hall. He was one of the first Latino All-Stars and the first Cuban born black ballplayer in MLB. Just as Ernie Banks is known as "Mr Cub", Minnie is known here as "Mr White Sox."
Jinx, no gun giveaways here, but one of the rock radio stations gives away a new chainsaw every Friday. They ask, "Why not ?" For this season, they are having a Merry Axe-mas. The grand prize is an autographed guitar.

I have said it before, but I will say it again: SUZE ORMAN was telling everyone to buy into the stock market in the bubble before 2000. After things dropped, she told everyone to sell. Worst possible advice. I am appalled that these untrained people who play investment advisors on TV are allowed to continue to do harm. One of them was even appointed to a powerful government position! Pay no attention to these people.

Went to get my Moderna booster last week, they also offered the flu shot which I was scheduled for this week at a different location, so I opted for a jab in each arm, the only ill effects being two sore arms for a couple days and maybe just a little more tired than usual. Hopefully will soon have efficacy against any strains or variants that may be lurking. Good day to all!
Thank you again, my dear Blog friends! It is exhilarating to receive so many lovely birthday wishes! And it mitigates the thought of reaching the ripe old age of 84. But, OTH, I have outlived both of my parents, my dad who died at age 35 and my mother at 80. My paternal great-grandparents reached their mid 70s so I am hopeful to live many more years, God willing.
Last week I was pleased to receive a Christmas card from Chickie (Leah). Now feel compelled to start on mine.

I don't recall if I mentioned that we made 25 dozen tamales which is a small number compared to when the entire family assembles to make them. However, I'm pleased that I will have some to take to the Christmas lunch with my group of friends.

We went to Yosemite in 2018(?) - absolutely amazing. It was also cool to see things IRL that you'd only seen on Discovery or NATGeo (e.g. El Capitan, Glacier Point). We didn't stay in the park, D-O, so I didn't know about the underwear issues

Still unvaccinated since I have had bad reactions to so many shots and never go anywhere. However, I was very ill over the weekend and wanted to go to the health facility where there are many covid cases. I ended up suffering at home rather than get exposed. Still not up to par. I would love to get a shot.
RIP, former Senator Bob Dole, a prince of a guy that I had the honor of interviewing one-on-one several times. One of the few politicians who lasted many years in Washington and avoided scandal.

I notice the spectacular introductions given to some singers are too much encouragement to prove they're as versatile as Olympic athletes. They demo incredible ranges and stick the landing on every carol!
It is getting so I prefer choirs, as they are less inclined to try fancy vocal gimmicks--and just sing the *#@! song.

DR: A single diagonal, far side.
It gives us an anagram (13 of 15 letters) that reminds me of a coaching lesson I once had with a gifted young actor who was prepping to play Irina in Chekhov's Three Sisters. She was trying to come "back down" from a scene of anger, and it wasn't working. I pointed out to her that sometimes an actor assumes that a powerful emotion (anger) can only be released in gradual steps.
No, I explained, the moment you can let go of any emotion, do so! Hanging on will only come across as forced & phony.
Too many feel they "owe" some allegiance to the emotions they create. That is just a sentimental notion.

A perfectly delightful start to the week made somewhat more so as I look over some of the clues that we filled in by crosses before I even read them.
In other news, those of you with NYT puzzle subscriptions who signed up after February 11, 2016 are in for a treat if you look up CC's puzzle from that day. It showed up for me today in the "From the Archive" section of the iPad app. A Thursday puzzle with the expected challenges, but well worth a look.

PK- hope you are feeling better. We have an allergist here who is vaccinating people with previous vaccine reactions. She starts with very small doses and increases gradually, with 15 to 20 minute intervals.

Hello from Kevin, thank you everyone for solving. Always a joy to collaborate with my frequent collaboration partner Andrea. I'll be meeting her and one or two other constructors for dinner in SF on Thursday.
I don't have anything too profound to say about the theme. SILLY is a fun word so I felt it would be cool to build a puzzle around it.
We went back and forth between GOOSE BUMPS and GOOSE FLESH, and I know some of you did as well. We considered a few different John Updike book titles for the RABBIT * answer, but decided those might not quite be well known enough for some solvers. Happy to get a grid spanner with STRING ORCHESTRA. PUTTY KNIFE is the only option for PUTTY *.

Anon -T, that Yosemite Park, underwear misunderstanding was meant to be a joke ... a silly one, at that - like our "Silly", theme for today.
It did fit into the lawyers briefs, as well.
Since, I'm already here, I have been looking at Indira Nehru Gandhi's picture. BTW, that was the name she used on the election polls ... might as well use her famous father's moniker, as her maiden name....
BTW, she was married to a zoroastrian, who was some sort of an activist.... Feroze Gandhi. But they were amiably permanently, estranged, long before she rose to become Prime Minister.
Also neither she nor her husband were related to M. K. ("Mahatma") Gandhi.
BTW, Gandhi is a profession, of one who is a grocer, or even a pharmacist. ( Hi Cand Eh! )
The picture shown was taken circa, 1936, when she would have been 18 or 19 years old. Notice the puffed tight sleeves on her blouse, which indicates the years when that style was in fashion. ( a la mode )
CanadianEh: Thank you for your concern and the article on shot allergies. It tells me that I shouldn't get a shot in the grocery pharmacy as intended. I even had allergic reaction to my last allergy shot. I had an epipen for years and the one time I should have used it, I was too sick to go get it and my son was scared and wouldn't. He called his dad who rushed me to the hospital unable to walk and trying to "fade out". My flu shot years ago left me with a high fever & hallucinations and sicker than I ever was with flu. Now that I live alone, I don't have someone to rush me to medical help if the reaction occurs hours after the shot or the next day. Wanted to get a shot to be able to see my son & grandkids at Xmas.
What a beautiful, wonderful day this has been! I was showered with love and greetings from many friends, from my grandchildren and the rest of my family, some on Facebook. Driving home from the restaurant even my car spoke to me as greetings arrived and were transmitted vocally.
Thank you all, again. I can say it is worth reaching another milestone age!

You seem to share similar reactions with my sister, Marge, who cannot tolerate the vaccines, either.
PK- hopefully you can find an allergist in your area who could assess your risk, and administer the vaccine in small doses. The benefits of being able to see family would be worth the investigation IMHO.

Picard, I totally agree with you. You are not the first person I have heard dis Suze. I personally didn’t like her presentation or her attitude.
Forget the Alamo by Burroughs is the recent well-written book. So truthful about the battle and Kit Carson among others that the State of Texas has barred teaching from the book.
