TORONADO: My dad bought one, and liked it. He'd previously owned an '88 and a '98.
BOSE: Had a pair one time. My current speakers are by KEF and sound great.
RECEDE: My hair has begun to "ebb" similar to Hahtoolah's illustration.
Since you've been dying to hear, I got my tire repaired yesterday. I was amazed to learn that Discount Tire doesn't charge for repairs...even though you didn't buy the tires from them. They removed the wheel, dismounted the tire, patched it, remounted it, spin-balanced it, and reinstalled the wheel on the car. All at no charge. When I need new tires, I'm going to revisit that business.

FIR again today though it was a close call. Almost had a Natick right at the get go witb A _TIC and _OD. Just before giving up I realized it was ATTIC and not internet related. Filled in the theme answers easily and the reveal, but didn't see how they worked together. Put Trash before TOTAL, had to correct the spelling of THEATer, replace ENdeaR with ENAMOR, and notice ADmEn was plural which wasn't called for. Little puzzling moments like these keep boredom away. Otherwise a clean fill. Thank yous to George and Hahtoolah. Interesting review as usual and much appreciated.

Smooth solve this morning - only played SPACE INVADERS a few times- money was too tight during college/grad school to spend it on arcade games- but I am familiar with it. At first I thought the circles were going to be items in the game rather than things that would go with SPACE. I wanted CORONADO before TORONADO - but easily corrected by perps. And like ATL had to change theater to THEATRE when the clue hinted at a British spelling.

I started reading Hahtoolah's blog and got to La Paz. That led me to Lake Titicaca, the highest commercially navigable lake in the world. That led me to Lake of the Woods, with 65,000 miles of shoreline. That led me to the Northwest Angle, the northernmost point in the contiguous United States. That led me to Automated Passport Control at border reporting booths, such as Jim's Corner. That led me to the 49th parallel north which I've never been to in North America but have been to in Karlsruhe, Germany. Then back to the Canada-US border, the longest international border between two countries. That led me to the the Kazakhstan-Russia border, the longest continuous international border between two countries.
Back to the blog. I listened to the Sultan of Swing. That led me to re-reading about the group and Mark Knopfler and playing some of their songs in the background. That led me to Gerry Rafferty and listening to some of his songs and reading about him. That led me to Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. That led me to the Paisley witches, the last mass execution for witchcraft in western Europe, with the horseshoe inscribed "Pain Inflicted, Suffering Endured, Injustice Done". That led me to the Salem Witch Trials. The led me to Cotton Mather, and his crusade for smallpox inoculation. That led me to vaccination, and back to the present, here and now.

Because of the circles, I saw the Space theme early on, but the reveal was still a nice touch. No w/os and no unknowns so no problems. Metals over Tin (Hi, Andy) was cute. CSOs to HG (The entire theme and Omaha, to boot!), CanadianEh (Theatre and Canada Geese), and Wilbur (Cape Cod). I have a Bose Radio/CD player that has great sound.

Easy puzzle. Did not get RILED DOing it. Got DEKE 'cause we've had it before. For highest capital, with the L from GENERAL, I wanted Lhasa although I knew it wasn't a country capital. But the A from ERA was in the wrong place so I held off, did the HEAD SLAP, and said "Oh yeah, LAPAZ." And voilà, it was done.
TORONADO - I believe it was unique in that (for the time) it had front wheel drive in addition to the large V-8 engine.

What is the connection between NEEDLE and CADET? AHA! SPACE. There was the theme in just a few minutes of solving.
TOD, RUDD, RITA and CEELO were new to me or completely forgotten.
I have heard of the ERA of GOOD FEELINGS so filled it quickly. I had forgotten any and all of the details about it. Sometime just an acquaintance with a word is enough.
The most pesky CANADA GEESE are the ones who came for a pit stop on their migratory path and stayed permanently to raise generations. They have overstayed their welcome. Pit stop is the accurate word which describes what so many of our ball fields, lawns and sidewalks have become.
I wanted LHASA so much. Then the P in SLAP gave me LA PAZ.
When we on the Corner make a bonehead mistake, we say V-8 can, please, a reference to Simpson's head slap and this commercial.

My husband and kids didn't like the warm canned tuna in the tuna casserole. so I always substitute diced cooked chicken.
My tire shop will repair a flat for free, too. The local body shop will make 15 to 20 minute repairs for free. Now I gratefully patronize both of them for bigger things.
I wanted to have the used car I considered buying from several dealers looked at by my mechanic at the above tire shop. ($113). The dealers said "We'll see," but ignored the request. I found another dealer with great customer service who agreed. I bought from them.

Only one inkblot where I changed ADman to REP (hello OMaxiN). Hand up for entering LE PAZ immediately (especially since I already had the Z from DIZ).
I hesitated at "Brunch, for one" (probably thrown off by the preceding "per person") wondering at the waste of a huge Brunch buffet for one person!
There may be complaints again today about the number of names (I gave up counting at 11); but perps were friendly.
Lots of CSOs today (I see that IM beat me while I was composing) - I'll take one with CANADA GEESE (messy birds! LOL re Shout AT -we don't want them all back, MadameD!!); TIN has already claimed his; MESA was awarded to Lucina by Hahtoolah. We also have OTTO for d'otto, OMAHAN and SPACE for HG, and ARID for our California contingent dealing with fires. Are any of our east coast gang on CAPE COD? (I see WC claims it)

I enjoyed the puzzle, Hahtoolah's tour, and the comments today. We don't see CANADA GEESE in L.A., and I only learned yesterday that "many people now consider it a suburban pest." (David Allen Sibley, _What it's like to be a Bird_, 2020) Having read that, I understood the "pesky" clue. Yellowrocks echoed that sentiment when she wrote, "Pit stop is the accurate word which describes what so many of our ball fields, lawns and sidewalks have become." Of course, the geese have rather more to complain about, with their lovely open spaces having been turned into ball fields, lawns, and sidewalks.
There were so many user-friendly proper nouns in this one that I have to bite my tongue. CHET Atkins, John Phillip SOUSA, TORONADO, BOLERO, SPAACE INVADERS, ODIE, RUDD, ATARI, BOSE, LA PAZ, Sonny and Cher, Fannie MAE, the Globe THEATRE, Ponce de LEON, OMAHAN, Mother TERESA, ISLE of Man and MESA, AZ are all familiar references. I did not know CEELO, TOD or RITA Ora.

Interesting article from Wild Birds Unlimited site re Canada geese. Some of the problem has been man-made apparently (through actions done with good intentions). They were "artificially introduced into numerous areas throughout the United States"; "They return to nest in the area in which they were born". There are also some hints for changing the landscape so that it is not so attractive to them.

No circles on the Merriam-Webster site, so I didn't get the theme even though I qualify as a Space CADET. However, with the help of perps and a few wags, I was able to finish the puzzle correctly in reasonable time.
This was a good puzzle by George. Hahtoolah's tour was enlightening and enjoyable.
A few "erasures" were necessary today. ADMAN before ADREP, APOP before EACH, and I had the same issue as others wanting LHASA before LAPAZ became evident. I didn't know RITA, but perps filled her in.
Got CANADA GEESE without any problem. I have been watching them fly over us recently as they are supposedly heading south. They are a problem, especially if they decide they like your area and decide to make it their permanent home. There were many that would winter at the Goddard Space Flight Center. You were forbidden from harming them even though you had to watch your step because of their droppings all over the place plus they can be territorial and attack if they think they or their nests are being threatened. The center got herd dogs to chase the Geese and when security found their nests, they would addle their eggs so they wouldn't hatch and hopefully leave eventually. Sorry CanadianEh, but you can keep the Geese.

Gonna have to ask my kids if they have ever made tuna casserole since they left home. It was a staple when they were young. Yes, it had a can of peas in it. Yes, the Irish Setter got the leftovers. No, I cannot for the life of me figure out how she managed to eat everything else, but left ALL of the peas in the bottom of her bowl.
Hand up with another vote for Discount Tire. I’ve bought all of my tires there for over 20 years. Their service has always been excellent! Unfortunately, the store that was only three miles away from me closed, but there are a couple of others that are fairly close.
BOLERO (among the classical pieces we played in high school band --- it even starts off PIANISSIMO before Ravel FINALLY turns the horns loose) was the recurring theme in Bo Derek’s movie “10”. We have a retention pond at the shelter that attracts Canada Geese. When they're migrating the grounds are literally covered in poop. There are some nesting pairs who raise their family there. Here's a different experience with them. Watch the little guy on the end.

I liked this puzzle and was struck that there were three proper names (CHET, OTTO, SOUSA) right off the bat. And then ELIE a little farther down. Then there was TOD, whom I had absolutely no knowledge of (Oh, that's the name of the fox? As Hahtoolah said, "Who knew?"), and CEELO. I'm not complaining, just observing.
I also noticed gold and silver METALS and TIN.
Hahtoolah, thank you again for providing us with your wit, insight, and humor. And that cartoon at the end of your review is excellent.
As far as I'm concerned, Tibet is a sovereign country. 'Nuff said; I want to but won't rant.
We shop at Discount Tire too, because we like them and want to give them the business. In this part of California they are called America's Tire.
Speaking of TIN, I always buy toothpaste that has STANNOUS Fluoride rather than Sodium Fluoride because I am convinced it is far more effective.

BOSE speakers produce pretty good-sounding sound, but the way they do it is tricky, requiring special, proprietary equalization.
About CANADA GEESE, as Ray-O-Sunshine said, "Why aren't we eatin' 'em up eggs and all"? Good question. Are they and/or their eggs edible?
I like Ravel's BOLERO. He himself hated it, thought it was junk.

The story of the Globe THEATRE is fascinating. Before it burned down, it carried more history on its boards than any other London theater of its day.
The first Elizabethan playhouses were built north of the City. When the original theater, appropriately called "The Theater," was evicted for a dispute over its land lease, the owners--the Burbage family--snuck in by night and tore the timbers apart. Those were carted south of the City and used to build the new Globe.

I have totaled three cars on LA: last one,
My dad in law needed a car so I bought him one. He used it a few years until he could no longer drive.
It sat in his garage for a few years he was in elder care.
I had it completely overhauled and refurbished so I could use it as a 30 mi commuter car to work.
The first day driving home from LAX thru downtown LA, I got t-boned on the 110 during rush hour.
How the guy lost control going 15 mph I don’t know.
Car was totaled, I was fine.
Nice Tuesday puzzle, I guess circles are starting to grow on me...lol. We occasionally have Canada Geese issues at our golf course, but they usually leave after a few days. It is a bigger problem on Cape Cod, where they use every trick in the book, including dogs, to get rid of them. A messy situation.

EdwadD - wait, wha? TOTAL'd a car at 15mph? I mean,,, DW did-in a mini-van at 20mph (merging lanes and an oversized-load grader on a flat-bed that opened the driver's side like a P38 opening a can). Youngest TOTAL'd an Escape Hybrid by not missing a deer at 45mph. But 15 mph?

I looked it up and yes, Canada geese are edible. However, they are scrawny and the meat is very lean.
-T --- Doing all right in beautiful downtown Clodine! Only got about two inches of rain so far. No wind to speak of. I was out yesterday when it was just starting to rain off and on, but I got in before it got bad. Wish I had gotten a dose of winterizer on the lawn beforehand, but it probably would have just washed down the storm drain anyway. According to WeatherBug, supposed to get some more rain here overnight and winds <15 or so, and then it's supposed to clear up.
Had to go to KHOU Sunday morning to put the plane back to bed, and we got finished doing that just as it started sprinkling. I was supposed to work tomorrow, but on Monday the decision was made to stay closed today and tomorrow. Supposed to work Friday too, but we'll have to see about the weather and (more importantly) the road conditions. Gotta cross 288 to get back to the airport, and it didn't look good this morning. Don't know when the loop will be open over there again at 288 again. The troll road might be OK, because 288 runs under it, but it looks like getting off the troll road to go up to the airport might not be doable. Charlie on the MTA!
Hands up for ENDEAR b4 ENAMOR. Quick run, and circles solved the theme. Tony, glad you finally chimed in - I was wondering about Sugar Land. Your town/suburb regularly gets summer rains when there's an umbrella overhead in my North Loop area. Space City Weather emails twice daily weather reports, but during any tropical storm there are reports every four hours - your area got clobbered. The umbrella held up here - less than 8" since Sunday, delivered by rain bands and not buckets as in SW Harris County. D-O, per Space City reports, your area may get more rain tonight.
PS, slight nit - down here in southeast Texas growing up on a farm and even now, we always refer to the "pesky?" birds as Canadian geese, but I'll excuse CANADA GEESE. I guess the Texas climate is not to their liking, so they're less poopin' than gittin', migrating mid-fall (whenever it arrives here). My fav memories - hearing their noisy honks while flying in a v-formation against cold, gray clouds.
