Morning, all!

Blew through this one like a greyhound on steroids. I think I paused briefly at 18D when the RC part of DIETRC didn't spring immediately to mind, but that was it.

The theme was a bit underwhelming, but I didn't even notice it until I finished, so no harm, no foul.

And in honor of tax day, I offer the following:

Simplified Tax Form

Good morning Argyle, C.C. et al.

Fun write-up, Argyle, and I got a real chuckle from your 7-11-Down comments. DRILLS and FINES, oh my!

WBS. (I just looked at your simplified form, and surprise: It looks like they owe me a ton of money!!)

Happy (?) tax day everyone!

Cute puzzle! Thanks Patti and Argyle! The speediest for me yet, I think!

Another dark day here. Forecast says things will improve by Thursday. (Can I just sleep until then?)

Cheers!

Good morning, folks. Thank you, Patti Varol, for a swell Monday puzzle. Thank you, Argyle, for the swell review.

I agree with Barry. This went quite easily. I started in the NW and headed South and East.

I did not get the theme until I was finished. The theme clue was at the bottom.

EASE IN. Ha Ha Ha.

RELO was easy. I did that four times paid for by the company. I did it myself about 25 times.

Just had RSVPS the other day. I think yesterday.

Now I know OJO. Just had that, too.

Well, pulling into Erie (crosswordese).

See you tomorrow. Hope I can get my medicine that I forgot.

Good morning, gang - a fun, sub-four minute flat-out speed run this morning; I still can't understand how anyone breaks three minutes.

Couple of DF answers made it an interesting solve, otherwise a very straightforward Monday puzzle.

Argyle, nice write-up -- I'm with you regarding the theme.

Spent last night working on taxes (can't rush into these things). Let's just say I won't be 'celebrating' tax day today; the post office is gonna have to pry the envelope out of my hand. But, it's still Florida here, so no complaints. Hope it's a bearable Monday for everyone.

Spitzboov said...

Good morning everyone.

Easy one today. KUDOS to Patti for a fun romp. Neat theme. No lookups or nits. On 6d, my font rendering was A LITTLE unclear so I wasn't sure what was meant. But the perps took care of it.

Here is a Morning GLORY SPILLWAY.

desper-otto said...

Good morning!

Zip-Zap and it was done. I didn't know ELLEN ever had a sitcom, and I thought SARTRE was pretty crusty breakfast fare. But heck, it was still a total speed run. Dennis, I can't see anyone breaking six minutes for the same reason you can't see anyone breaking three. I just can't write that fast.

Seventy degrees at seven AM -- spring has definitely sprung in SE Texas. The hummingbirds are back and already fighting. These are the smallest I've seen, only slightly larger than a wasp.

Easy peasy today, I finished this on the train on my way into work.

My federal tax refund arrived Saturday, so I'm in the clear. For those of you still struggling, if Barry's form doesn't help perhaps this tax form might.

ABEJO: Is that a church key as your avatar?

Avg Joe said...

Yup. A speed run (though not a 4 minute one) and a whelming theme.

I got my return filed a month ago and have had the refund for over a week. Even had the 1st quarterly payment sent early last week. Why put off until tomorrow the things you hate to do today :-)

And for Harry fans: Morning Glory Story

Dennis said...

desper-otto, good to know the little guys are on the way - we just put the feeders out yesterday. I'm looking forward to seeing what we get down here.

Mari, that form looks a bit like my end result yesterday. May save that one for next year.

I understand I missed a rare appearance by Martin, who was with us back in the early days of the blog. Martin, if you're still reading the blog, please email me; I have a chance to go to Taiwan in the fall, and I have a few questions.

Spitz, how's the little guy doing?

kazie said...

Pretty easy Monday, considering all the names in there. I did catch the theme early but as others have remarked, not terribly mind bending or helpful, since not much help was really needed.

I got an email this morning from a cousin in Oz, saying she is sending by snailmail a collection of copies of old photos of our dads' family as they were growing up. I'm wondering if I'll be able to decipher who's who, since there were nine boys and only one girl, and I've never seen more than one photo of two of them as kids before. The boys were all completely bald as adults, and several I really never met at all. It should be an interesting challenge if they aren't labeled.

Nice start to the week!

I love a speed run on a Monday morning. It feels like . . . the beginning of a good week! So, many thanks, Patti. And I enjoyed the theme because those answers were so long, and I still got them!

Argyle, thanks for 'splaining PDF for us. I never even wondered what it stood for (or knew that it stood for anything!). So I learned something.

Also, for the photo of La Scala. My husband and I had an afternoon only in Milan before coming back from Italy a few years ago. We paid a taxi $100 to take us from the airport into town so we could take a quick tour of the gorgeous cathedral and La Scala while the driver waited for us. It was worth every penny!

Have a great Monday, everybody!

Lucina said...

A good morning to Argyle and to all!

What a nice speed run today! Since I sip coffee between fill, I take my time and still, it took about 15 minutes and half a cup.

So at 6D we have AN EYE and at 29D we have OJO. I like it. Be warned, however, that OJO can also mean a wellspring or natural artesian well.

For the first time in more years that I can recall, I had a refund from the Fed this year and it has been banked for over a month as well as the state refund. I'm saving it for my upcoming trip to see the Coven!! Yea, yea!

Have a delightful but hopefully not TAXING day, everyone!

Hello everybody. An easy, fast puzzle today. I never keep track of how long it takes me to solve, but I am aware of deliberately slowing myself down this morning by making it a point to read all the clues.

Well said about Tiger Woods, kazie. Spoiled brat indeed. Quite frankly, I think he is a fundamentally dishonest person.

Best wishes to you all.

Good morning Argyle, C.C. et al,

Fast yes, but unexciting. Would not have filled ojo without promo.
SAGS was my least favorite. Who needs to be reminded.

Argyle, thanks for that lovely version of Lara's Theme.

Garlic Gal, lets skip the burrito. Those crates of fake logs are uncomfortable at 7-11.

Like many others, we ended up giving more to our govt. due to having to take $$ out of DH's IRA- whether you want it or not...which also raised our Medicare payments.
Let's hope that one day our tax dollars will be used wisely.Pipe dream.

Another beautiful day.. aphids seem to enjoy it too.

Kudos to Adam Scott!

A fun, fast puzzle, so enjoyable as I try to increase my solving abilities! I could use a few more Monday puzzles in a week!! That was a pleasant Monday morning diversion. Thanks Patti and Argyle.

CED, I enjoyed your duck video. Ducks are great animals. One of the schools where I taught was near a pretty pond. Regularly, a male and female pair of mallards would be hanging somewhere around our campus. Never one of them; always both.

Ree, there's an explanation of how to link in the right-hand column of the first page of this blog down about three windows under "Olio." If you still don't get it, e-mail me and I'll be glad to help. The trouble is, you have to link something with a URL on a webpage. If you can post your photos onto a webpage, then I can help you link to them. Otherwise, you could send one or two to CC attached to an e-mail and she will include them at the end of a future blog. I love daffodils too.

My interest piqued w/KING SIZE BEDDING.. followed by 19A, 22A, RELO (as in SAGS) TATA, then jumping to the MAJ ATTRACTION of 54D, 58D and sadly ending w/a TIFF and A RAGE. Man! That was a lot of LOCO TORO riding. I need a drink and YET-I kept coming back for more. Great puzzle! KUDOS to Patti! Most fun I've had w/my clothes on in a long time!

French frigate D 646 Latouche Tréville facing big waves.

Lady Interviewer: Do you drink every day?
Man: Yes.
Lady Interviewer: How much a day?
Man: Around 3 six-packs starting at noon.
Lady Interviewer: How much does a 6-pack cost?
Man: Roughly $10.00 at a pub.
Lady Interviewer: And how long have you been drinking like that?
Man: 15 years.
Lady Interviewer: So with a six-pack costing $10.00, and you consuming 3 six-packs a day, you are spending roughly $900 each month. In one year, you would then be spending $10,800, correct?
Man: Correct.
Lady Interviewer: If in 1 year you spend $10,800 on beer, not accounting for inflation, 15 years puts your spending roughly $162,000; correct?
Man: Correct.
Lady Interviewer: Did it ever occur to you that if you did not drink for the last 15 years, you could have bought a Ferrari?
Man: Do you drink?
Lady Interviewer: No.
Man: So where's your Ferrari?

Hi Y'all! Fun little speed run at 12 mins. It would have been faster, but my cursor and I often are not in the same square when I type. Only clue I had to perp was PDFS. First time ever that I never saw a red-letter. Woo hoo!

All cat lovers doing their taxes need to see "Non Sequitur" cartoon today.

Spitz: Misnomer on the spillway. It should be "Go to Glory" spillway. What a scary hole!

DO: Ellen "came out of the closet" on that sitcom.

Lois: What? you passed over ERECT? You're slippin'!

Slept through part of the Masters. Every time I woke up, someone else was leading. Finally got so exciting, I stayed awake. Loved Adam Scott's win. The best part was the heart-felt embraces from Angel Cabrera. He did his best to win, but he was happy for Adam. What a great warm human being! Walking off with their arms around each other! Priceless. Better than a jacket.

As for Tiger, anyone who believes he didn't realize his cheat is too naive to live. Win at any cost is his motto. I turn off the TV if he's sure to win, mute it if he's talking and look where his face isn't.

I love the "simplified tax form," Barry G! Thank goodness I filed my taxes a couple of months ago.

I visit RENO every year to see relatives. It's very hot during the summer, but I'll take dry heat over moist heat any day.

When reading a book, I'd rather write notes on a separate sheet of paper than make DOG EARs. I have too much respect for the paper!

Spitz, that video made me queasy just watching it. I would never survive as a passenger/crewman on that ship. What causes waves like that? A big storm close by?

So we know Tiger is a known cheat in his personal life. But golf is self-policing; on the honor system; unlike a baseball outfielder who has just trapped a sinking line drive but holds it up trying to convince the umpire that he has caught it.
